My Ghillie Suit

I just finished my Ghillie suit this morning and I want to show it off. My Ghillie suit only covers down to right below my waistline, and is like a poncho. I used burlap stips, jute twine, and nylon netting to make this. The reason that Ghillie suits work so well in camoflauging, is because of their 3D nature, they create real shadows and hilights. Printed camo, like on BDUs, has the shadows and hilights printed on them instead of truely creating them. They originated from when Scottish gamekeepers sewed strips of burlap to their clothing in order to acheive the effects mentioned above. These suits were also used by German snipers during WW1 and WW2, and are still in use with the military today.

Wow, Thats really impressive, it works really well. In the picture of you in your garden its hard to pick you up, and if your casually strolling by you most likely wouldn't see you.

Thats Amazing,I'm currently making a ghillie for my gun and now im thinking of making one for myself!

Is it a bit hard to see out of?Does it get really hot and also how long did that thing take to make?!

It works. I replaced the fuse, and now I can put the battery back in the stock. But the spring in the gun is way to powerful, and the motor is a high torque motor used for power not speed. I want the gun to cycle rounds faster, so I am going to downgrade my spring to the stock springs that come with the gun. Another alternative would be to leave the ugraded spring in and buy a 12V NiMh battery to run the motor instead of the 8.4V NiCd, which would increase overall cycling speed, power, and the amount of time before you need to charge again. The cheapest way is just to replace the spring.

If you make it in a poncho like style you can wear over your T-shirt, it wont get very hot. It took about 7 hours to attach all the twine to the netting. Getting the supplies ready and dyeing the twine took a while too. If you want netting cheap, try to find a local sports and fish netting company and they sell net pretty cheap. I got my 1.25" nylon netting in a 5'x9' rectangle from a local supplier for only $8! Yes, I can see out of it. I will be posting a how to on making a Ghillie hood in the How To section.

The 1st picture is of me holding my gun with the rifle rag on it. I don't have a picture of the gun alone w/ the rifle rag.
