im planing on buying a go-kart. ive got my eye on one and i want to know what i have to do to put shock absorbers on it. heres the link http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/rvs/357118655.html the one i want to buy is the light green one on the right. im also puting a roll cage, sparco raceing seat(because the are comfy and safe), and yahmaha blaster back fenders on it if i do buy it. this thing has to be a monster kart. i plan on doing jumps and going up hills that might flip me over. well if anyone can help me please post a way to. http://www.gokartgalaxy.com/shock_absorbers.htm this is a link of the absorbers i want to put on it. they are for mini bikes and if they dont work ill buy atv shocks.

No no no no no no no. That is way to much for that kind of kart. I bought my gokart with a roll cage, E start and suspension for $600 and it was really good.

I would definently look around more.See if you can get something cheaper than that. But if you want to spend the money go ahead.

As for the shocks, do you have a full blaster or just the parts for it? If you still do, you could cut the front end off and weld to the front of the kart.

Flip you gonna need some severe modding!!!
I used to be into gokarts and designed a couple of karts. Didnt have the resources to build them though.

ya i could. well its actually a scrap blaster that i have to buy the parts from. ya the blaster still has atleast one set of shocks and those are the front shocks. i can see if there are all the shocks though.

ya but what about the wheels? id have to make a safe for the wheel shaft. and what king of cart do you have? and where did you get yours?

P.S. the cart isnt $1000 thats for both. im gana try to get it for $200-300 max.

EDIT spud yeti the first site link you posted has a kart that looks very very similar to what im building.

Keep in mind, the more stuff you add to it, the lower your accelleration will be. And I'm guessing those are meant more for racind carts on pavement with light drivers. So, you may also be putting bigger tires and a new sprocket on it. Is the engine large enough?

Maybe it would be a good idea to find a cart that was designed more for offroad use in the first place.

well i did find a off-road kart for $250 firm which is perfect. the only downside is the old clutch wont fit the new engine so it is useless. on the post though there is a link to a site that has the clutch i need for $25. i would buy it but i dont exactly know how to change a clutch in a small engine. i have helped change a clutch in a car though. can anyone help me with this by giving me instructions? heres the link http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/mcy/361714848.html i looks nice and it has a roll cage. that helps cut down on the cost of all the parts ill add. i guess $250 for the kart and $25 to get it running... $275 not bad. check it out and tell me what you guys think. it also has bigger tires which is nice.

The thing is, the cluth on there is a tourque converter and the one he is telling you to buy is a centrifucal clutch. They are not very good off road, they better for stright driving, becuase they need to cool off and things.

But cheanging them is very simple, just take the old one off, slide the newone on tighten the setscrew and put the chain on and your good to go.

Tell him to take a picture of the driver clutch(the one on the engine) on the kart and post it here.

I like those karts not only for the suspension and stability but most karts, the drive sprocket on the wheel is almost the size of the wheel making off-roading difficult for climbing over large obsticles. If just using a regular kart you could find an inexpensive engine and clutch assembly out of an old snowmobile. An old 440cc engine could give you 30-40 HP. With that much power you could use a smaller sprocket on the drive shaft, giving a greater off-road capability and higher speed.

does look sick. Especially the ones in customer karts

opr i could i would i will. in Illinois a lot of people are selling older (78-92) snowmobiles that work but they dont have room for. as soon as i get money i think ill buy the $250 clutch-less kart. i will mod it to be similar to the desertkart karts. its nice to becayse i have a beach house in Indiana right on lake michigan and ive ridden a dirtbike in the sand and nobody cared. my brother also took his blaster there and we built jumps.

When ya buy it also buy a nitrous oxide kit and a small turbo No Im kidding but thats cool. Enjoy whatever you buy mate

jrrdw i hate break this to you but i didnt see a go-kart (atleast i dont think so). i think i saw a very nice XR or CRF50. ya im really leaning towards getting the $250 kart. i have a list of thinks i can do to it once i get it. i will post pics of it when its under construction and finished. and this is only IF i buy no promises. well if i do buy it and finish it i promise it will be good.
