Need some help explaining the Sprinkler Valve!

Hello everyone, I am a pneumatic noob so take it easy. anyway, here is what I am thinking right now but im not sure if it's correct, please help me!!!


I dont fully understand how this whole modified sprinkler valve works. so you pressurize your chamber to a certain PSI depending on size...

then you give the blowgun on the modded Sprinkler Valve a squeeze and it opens the valve which then lets the air behind the projectile pushing it out at a high velocity?

lighten up on him. he's got the right idea. and besides, I'm sure he's going to do a bit more researching before he gets around to actually building the gun.

I'm not hammering on him, I'm trying to point him in a right direction and tell him to plan it out before he spends $$ on parts he may not need. I'm talking from experience, I've done that before when I was just starting. I'll be the first to help him out, which I thought that's what I was doing. I wasn't trying to be a smartass and beat on him like alot in here would do.

Dude, I even posted a 'clue' for him. By all means, I'm glad he's here. 5000+ members all throwing ideas at each other.... what could be better.

EDIT: He may even do as I did and decide not to use a sprinkler valve for the main valve like I did. I came in here thinking I was going to build a simple cannon using a chamber, sprinkler valve, and barrel. After reading for a week or so, I decided to build a piston valve instead, using my sprinkler valve as the pilot. That's what I was tring to get across.

Let me tell you this, I would never come in here and rag on a someone trying to learn this hobby. I get tired of people here who build one cannon, post 200 times, and think they know everything... Its funny as hell. I'll see someone make a post hammerin' some dude in here, look at his post count being 800! Then, a day later, that same 800 count poster will be asking some simple question that's been answered over and over again....

So no, I wasn't ragging him, and thanks for standing up for him too. Its nice to know some people are watching out.

well thanks for the responses guys, and yes I really expected some criticism suggesting to search first. I am no noob to forums, just to the hobby.

you know I would try a Piston, but it seems like there is a lot of place for error when making one of those, I looked at MrCrowley's tutorial and I didn't fully understand the "deodorant Can" piston". So I figured I'd just use a ball valve, but after a bit of researching valves on spudwiki, turns out that ball valves open way too slow.

Piston valves are pretty simple to build. You may have already seen this post, but it explains piston valves. If or whenever you decide to build one, start with a 2" tee housing or smaller. I started with a 3" tee. Not all that easy to find something for the piston without having to just make one out of epoxy or hot glue. The sprinkler valve mods are not that difficult to do either. Its way faster than a ball valve.

modding a sprinkler valve may seem intimadating at first, but once you open it up and look inside it, its easy to figure out how it works and where to put the blow gun.

hey thanks again guys. I really appreciate your input. pretty soon here I will sketch up some plans for my first pneumatic and post them. I am sick and tired of the basic combustion that works 1//4 of the time.

Yeah I upgraded the ball valve to sprinkler valve, they're just expensive in NZ so I had to get some more cash first

The deodorant can piston, is just a method of building a piston for 2" piston valves. It's no different from a normal barrel sealer, I just try and teach you how to make a piston from a deodorant can.

They can also be used on co-axial piston vavles too.
