I want to dry fire an air cannon to vent a high force blast of air. Watching videos you see the effects of the air venting the barrels and it looks like it is powerful on its own.

I don't need to fire a projectile but I do want lots of air to come out. Using 2" pipe what is the ideal length for a tank for this setup? That is, what is the smallest tank made of 2 inch pipe I can use and still get an impressive air blast? Barrel would be stubby and 3/4" pipe. My goal is to go as small as possible but still be powerful. What do you guys think?

it dosent need to be big if you use high pressure. 3 feet chamber and barrel with a 2 inch piston valve at 120 psi would knock you of your feet

I'm going to have to disagree.

Is there a specific use for this?

bigger chamber and lower pressure would work best

It is for an invention. It has nothing to do with destruction or weaponry or tatoes or anything like that. before I cut this 4 foot length of PVC I've got and put caps on it i wanted to check here first for the minimum length to cut to. I'd love to go to 1 foot of length or 2 foot max....for the tank. And keep pressures sort of low.

Picture a rolled up sock at about 2 inches from end of barrel - and when i say barrel I basically have a stub of 3/4 inch pipe as an outlet after the sprinkler vavle. i need to blast the sock ball across the room.

Update -

Made a pretty snazzy tank with 3/4" sprink valve. Lots of honking at 60 psi and lower. Blew a rolled up sock placed 2 inches in front of .75 " pipe barrel/nozzle whatever across the room ok I guess. Much too loud.

Even ported the top of the sprink and put in a 1/8th inch QEV/blow off. Still loud like a tuba.

Design was for a mousetrap. Mouse walks up stands on microswitch platform - puff - unharmed mouse blown into receptacle. Tank recharges. Ready for next mouse.

On to another invention Bye : )
