Don't use a raquet ball, I've tried and they will break... Tennis balls work well for a while. Cut one in half and use a hole saw to make a big hole in the middle. Then cut a slice out of it sideways to make the circumference less and it will fit in the 2" valve.

That bumper may or may not be doing much good, being so thin. Half of a tennis or racquetball ball should work, You're looking for anything that's springlike, but won't bounce your piston shut on itself.
Oh the tape wrappings... they never survive long if you move to metal fittings and high pressures. Enjoy them whilst you can.

W00t! I mentioned spudguns in an interview, and it turned out that one of the guys there was an old-time spudder, he knew about QEVs and such. He called pneumatics "silent death," guess we know why now.hyperspaz wrote:my friend said that from inside my house about 30 feet away, he had to strain to hear my cannon fire at 80 psi.
That's a pretty sick damage video, every time I see something like that it makes me want to get into larger bores, just because of the greater muzzle energy. The only thing that's stopped me so far is recoil fear (The trident with a heavy projectile kicks a LOT)... that and a slight lack of funds.

The advantage with large bore air cannons is you can chicken out and start with low pressure and work up to high pressure and heavier projectiles. After a morning shooting apples, oranges, limes, spuds, soda cans, and such I finally braved shooting a full Gatoraid. It didn't knock me over as I knew it would kick hard. I did get a bruise. it fit the 3 inch barrel very nicely.
Landing of the gatoraid bottle almost 300 yards downrange.
