Hi
This forum is great one and I like to see that it is very active with a lot of knowlage and info.
Few days ago I wanted to understand the priceple of Vortex cabinet cooler.
Somehow I noticed a video about the vortex cannon and I decided that I have to try it out and build a prototype. Thought it's going to be simple job...
I tryed this configuration:
all I got was a PUFFFF
I am not sure but maybe I have to add some chabmre to create the vortex ring
probebly kind of this configuration:
Any Idea what was wrong with the basic configuration ?
I tryed to search for design info with building blocks and some dimentions but could not find it.
Vortex Cannon design need help

Alas not as much as it used to be... but welcome!I like to see that it is very active
I don't think a ball valve is going to cut it for your project. Some threads you might find helpful to read through:

Welcome!
I'm pretty sure you have too large chamber for that size nozzle.. you might also want to upgrade to QEV (quick exhaust valve), like the other one that Jack linked.. actually the smaller cannon linked is quite exactly what you probably want..

Thanks for the replies
It took me a while to understand that QEV stands for quick exhaust valve.
As I understand my problem is the slow response of the manual ball valve.
Therefore I tried today to correct it by emulating quick response even with Ball valve.
I have attached piece of balloon to the outlet of the ball valve. Now when I opened the valve, I got a Bang.. but I did not get any air ring.
Tomorrow I will try it without the chamber that was added few days ago.

Woooowwww
Thats a cannon !
Looks great one
As for the suggestions raised by Matti & Jackssmirkingrevenge:
1. Since all I wanted is to build a prototype just for fun. I thought it will be an easy job. Anyway thank you for your ideas; I will try to implement them.
2. Faster Valve – I believe the idea of stretching a piece of balloon on the outlet pipe of the Ball Vale could emulate the response of QEV. Tried it once, when the ball valve was nearly fully open, I heard the blasting sound of this piece of balloon. Of course I have to dismantle this piece of pipe each time and stretch a new piece of balloon over it…
3. Smaller Chamber – My drawing was just for illustration, I used a piece of 2" PVC pipe at about 200 mm Length. I believe I should make it shorter, maybe 100 mm.
4. I can see that the cone that you have used has bigger slope than the one I used, maybe I will change mine.
5. I tried to find some designs with dimensions of a simple Vortex canon. Is there any database with simple designs and dimentions?

Not really a common project on this forum. Interesting patent.I tried to find some designs with dimensions of a simple Vortex canon. Is there any database with simple designs and dimentions?
