Hey
I have made my first pneumatic cannon out of high pressure pipes and fittings, i asked for pressure pipe at the hardware store. But after reading on these forums i heard alot about how the pressure rating is on the pipe itself. My pipes don't have a pressure rating on them but they guy said they are designed for high pressure water systems, i then told him i need at least 100psi in the pipe (which was an exaduration, im only putting up to 80 psi) and he said the high pressure water systems go above 100psi and he said it should be fine. Is he right in saying this? and am i safe to put up too 80psi in it?
Thanks
Marco
Pressure Pipe help
I'm guessing you are not from USA? PN 12 means "Pressure number 12", meaning that the pipe is rated to 12 bar (176.4 PSI). I think this is usually considered lower pressure pipe, but for your purposes (80 PSI and below) it should be fine if you solvent weld properly.
Thanks heaps, when i read about seeing the pressure rating on the pipe i got worried about the pipe blowing up in my face, but now i know the pipe is fine. So anything up to 176.4 PSI will be fine in the pipe? im not gonna take her that high but the highest im willing to take my pipe is 100 PSI so at 100 PSI it will still hold?
Thanks
Marco
Thanks

That pipe is fine for use well above 100psi.40mm PN12 176PSI(perfect for golfballs
)And has a burts pressure off....Dun..Dun..Dun..528PSI.The highest class PVC pipe you can get is PN18 which is 264PSI burst pressure of 792PSI and pressure rating doesnt change with pipe size so you can have 150mm pipe or 6" that is still rated to 264PSI which is an advantage over the SCH system in some ways.
Ohh and that pipe is fine for uses at 80psi,i take my PN 12 pipe regularly to 130PSI.
rmich-You know a good bit of information for some one that doesn't use the metric pipe systems, good to see other people take in information from other countries systems.
