Wiki is spewing the same old drivel from almost 20 years ago. Ozone depletion by freon has never been proven to this day.

OK, now imagine that hundreds of millions of people have the same attitude, and that's why the world is going down the craphole.

People think: "Oh, I'm just one person, I won't make any difference."
Yeah, but if everyone thinks that way, it does make a difference.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

hmmm I didn't have any objections to release freon.... yep I know it's bad for the enviroment and stuff but you know if I hadn't done that it would leak out anyway after 10 years....

Is America really a huge problem with freon pollution these days? I thought it came more from developing countries like China and such...

I'm sorry but I feel my thread has been hijacked. I really haven't gotten one legitimate answer to my question. This is a forum for the construction of pneumatic devises. Thank you though MrCowley for educating me by directing me to that article.

btw i haven't really been truthful to you guys, I need it as a vacuum pump, so I can make more of these:

Idk but this is jut an idea

HCFC-22
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HCFC-22

I was reading a wiki page on Green Gas (gas used for airsoft guns)
and it mentioned red gas (another airsoft gas product)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_gas

It said this,

"Products advertised as being more powerful than Green Gas are typically Red Gas, correctly known as HCFC-22."

it's propane + silicone oil (or something like that)

sorry for off topic posts - I have no idea how to deal with the problem... of course you could use a balloon to collect to freon... in this way it won't harm anything

you have two choices - either pay a lot of $ to do it in a proper way or simply cut it out releasing freon.... it's up to you...

Agreed, I know i've been guilty of hijacking it also but that wasn't my intention.

BTW, I've just searched Google trying a few search terms and I can't find a legal way to remove freon without getting it done properly for a fee. It's not looking good.

The fact that it hasn't be proven doesn't mean it doesn't contribute to its depletion. - If we adapt this reasoning, it has never been proven that smoking weed creates a severe psychological dependance, but you just have to go out and see it by yourself.-
Anything you can do to prevent such a thing is a plus for you and everybody on this planet.

To return on topic, I can imagine a way that would prevent freon from spewing out., if you can manage a way to mesure the volume of the circuit, and the pressure of the gas inside, you have a global idea of what volume of freon there is; right? So basicly, you make a small cut in a pressure pipe, find some way to block (pressing your thumb on it?) the freon, and quickly put a balloon on the cut. It might be ghetto, but the gas will pour out in the balloon, and very little amount will be released in the air. Once your gas is fully released in the inflated balloon, you make a knot and try to find out a way to get rid of it, environmently friendly of course.

Huhhhh? Your statements here are nonsensicle. It hasn't been proven.

It's up to the proponent of a theory to observe and prove it, and peers to repeat the observance...it's not the job of the skeptic to disprove an unproven theory.
