My XRV gun, could be portable with a propane tank mounted on it or a shock pump, I wouldnt use propane though since its metal and could easily cause a spark
That is all.

Yeah I mean the kind with hte mounted shock pump, since the chamber vol. is so little it takes a short time to reload, probably ideal for airsoft.

Well when your getting shot with a 50 rps 400fps mp5 you really dont want to have to pump. muzzle load, then slide down the barrel
That is all.

that's why i said a good mag system. and a good xvr can get higher velocities than that

But it still takes about 5 pumps to build up the pressure, id rather have a 400 fps machine gun that can fire 50 times in a three seconds than a gun that can only shoot 10 times a minute
That is all.

ok well the point of this discussion is not which gun to buy, but which one to build.

and Im suggesting not to build a sniper but a BBMG, he could either build a turret or use regulated HPA, CO2, or unregulated propane, even a stationary turret would be ok
Heres a interesting one but he could mod a cartridge to hold more air like JSR did

For a magazine setup, I'm thinking about getting an old magazine from another airsoft gun. What would be a good way to get a BB in the barrel after each shot? I don't mind having to cock it. I'm thinking maybe having a lever pull open a slot in the barrel, then pulling the stop thing on the magazine back, thus loading a BB.

EDIT: I didn't even notice the whole second page... I've decided to make a sniper rifle. I already have a great shotgun (my weapon of choice) for airsoft, and a CO2 sidearm. I just want to build a gun for fun. A BBMG would be nice, but I'd need to lug around a lot of stuff. And BTW, sometimes its better to have one shot and hit the opponent then to have 1000+ shots and miss in rapid succession :P

as suggested before you can just use the hop up unit of an airsoft gun

Well it be hard to miss with 1000 shots, as for the mag, just buy a cheapo rifle from ebay and remove the barrel, hop up and mag setup, then just add what ever air and valve setup you choose
That is all.

You're right, I guess... But sniping is more fun :). I guess I'll find an old bolt-action sniper rifle or something and take the parts. What PSI and chamber size should I aim for to get around 450-500 FPS, and prefferably more than one shot? I've heard about shock pumps, but I have no idea what they are and Google provides no answers.

Bicycle shock absorber pump - a cheap if a little tedious way of achieving higher pressures, though really only good for smaller chambers.

blowgun + shock pump = compact and relatively powerful launcher

There small hand pumps that reach high pressures, there made for mountain bikes and can reach 300+ psi, without knowing your chamber volume or type of valve I cant tell you what pressure you need
That is all.

I haven't even begun to buy any parts, I came here asking for advice, as I have no idea what would be the best way to do this. What would be the best sub-$50 chamber&valve setup?

For semi, a hammer valve, for a single shot, a piston valve, Id use galvinised steel
