rmich732 wrote:Looking very nice. How did you paint it camouflage? I know this is probably common knowledge, but I'm kinda dumb sometimes  . I am the SLOWEST painter; it took me 90 minutes just to paint two 4" x 48" chambers green :P  . I always put too many coats, and then drips start to form... from there, its just me fighting to wipe up the drips and add more paint to make it not appear as rough... this causes more drips.... and the cycle continues for a long time

1. How much shorter is the piston valve housing? And how did you lighten up the piston?

2. By the way, what kind of porting does this valve has? It originally had 2" porting, but you added a female adapter to the front, so I am assuming it can have up to 3" porting, right?

thanks! it was actually real easy, I found some colors ment for camo and being used outdoors at my home depot today. I used the previous coat of black as the background, than used relatively light coats as I applied totally random blotches of them.

it looks better in person. I had a dirt biker stop in the field next to my house and ask me where I got it. :D

I did this all today

answer to your question #1 is...

a couple inches. I re-calculated how far I wanted the piston to move back, using to formula.

I did not know it before. this was my first cannon, errr.... the first version was.

answer to #2 is....

yes, the porting is still 2 inch, but can be increased to 3 inch.
this is to reduce dead space
the piston back is filled with the great stuff foam, with chicken wire framework inside. the endcap has been filed down and reduced in weight in every place I could, without making the clearances between the pipe wall and the piston larger.
MrCrowley wrote:It looks like your tee housing isn't level. Like the elbows to the bottom tee are fine but then the vertical port of the bottom tee isn't pointing directly up. Looks like its leaning slightly towards the back of the gun... I don't know it could be the pictures but it doesn't look straight and that wont help your crooked barrel problem.
crowley, I did that on purpose.

it's that way on all the other versions, too.
this is to increase the angle the barrel is at when it points up in the air.
when i set it level to the ground, where I shoot, it sits level, and on top of that, that slight angle makes it shoot farther while resting on the ground.

and to all the rest of you guys, the barrel really appears much more bent here than it really is.
it is barley noticeable in person, you have to look closely to see it's bent at all.
the uneven splotches trick your mind.

Schmanman, just so you know, a Flatline just increases range, the backspin on the balls make the accuracy suck hideously.
yep, and now it can shoot through more with the new valve.

I feel stupid now....
oh well, it works for me.

and that's only if I turn it a certain way.
it shoots plenty accurate, as evidenced by the video's I've put up in the past.

hey, it's time for more of those!

Nice paint job! I wanna see a video of the air horn thingy doing its thing. It looks like fun!
well, I was gonna buy a 60 foot long marble barrel today, but I bought the misc parts to do this instead (used home depot gift cards, using cash to rebuild dirtbike engine)

okey dokey. air horn vid tomorrow!

Where did you find a 20 foot aluminum barrel?
it's aluminum conduit.

the aluminum is much smoother on the inside, and allows tighter projectile clearance, more fps.

I got it for free from my grandpa. :D

C.
Because its soo hard to type 19o, I mean the 1 and 9 are like 6 inches apart even. :P

I didnt think the swat could be improved on, but some how you managed it. you should make a bipod for level shots, and maybe a rail or cable support for steeper angles.

Btw, did you use helium to break the sound barrier?

he needed a nickname, ok!!!! geez...

thanks! you really thought it was that nice? that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.... lol. :D

umm, nope.

just 100 psi. and I added another small section to the barrel, so it was 25 feet long.

I could hear the sharp crack when it broke it, and on top of that, the paintball went through an inch of fiberboard, leaving a massive puncture with shredded edges.

I think I broke it with a d-cell battery, it went through a plate of steel about 1/4 inch thick, then broke a 2x4 in half.

in a year or so, there will probably be a swat v.4.

has anyone else ever made one with a 20-30 foot long barrel?

If a sharp crack means that you've broken the sound barrier, then ive broken it many times with my marble gun. I think you should put on 2 valves instead of 1 on version 4

well, no, this was different. it's not the same as the one you hear from a large c:b ration.

It's more of a massive boom that can not be generated by compressed air.... well, you know what I mean, it's kind of hard to explain.

the damage further proves that I broke it.

I have no doubt you could break it, it just takes some work, experimentation, and more experimentation.

Actually, yes. I hooked an old water tank up to 20 feet of 1" well pipe. I used a ball valve, and it was before I found spudfiles, so i never bothered to post it.
Im getting a new ball valve i a couple days so I'll hook it up and post it eventually.

that's pretty cool.

well, obviously, I've got a 20' barrel at the moment, but mine's 2".
(why did I just say that :? )

gotta add another 5-10 feet.

I'm working on a lathed/milled breech at the moment.

There are rules, and then there are hundred dollar bills.
