In my saltish opinion, I think a longer barrel might help the air expand longer...

Geez just extend the barrel to give it more power.

Looks good. Just follow everyone's advice and you should get it done. I'm glad to see someone who is swiftly figuring out the fundamentals of air cannons, as well as a little problem solving . One question though: is there any specific reason you want this cannon to launch nets, or is it just a "wow! It would be cool to have one of those" ideas?

well done for a new guy. It looks pretty good. If your really scared about it blowing up on you just put it in a strong bag, pump it up whilst staying well away  . hehe.... But it shouldnt shatter if you used the components you did.
just remember not to shoot it at birds because you could end up with big problems trying to untangle the bird! And some bad bites!
btw, whos the lady in the pic.... jst jokes, but still......

I know that spudtech is still selling rifled barrels. If you purchase one that you can pack your net + weights into, the centripetal force* will cause the weights to spread out in opposite directions, thereby opening the net.

If you can't get one of these, use three or four barrels angled so that the weights will not only spread but spin as well (this stabalizes the net's trajectory).

ja, thinking of a throw net, the more it spins the more it opens. To make your air come out at an angle, thus causing spin, might work. All hyperthetical though so might be wrong!

If you do it that way though you'll have to pack it a certain way it it won't work properly. Kind of like a parachute, if you don't pack it right, you better have a back-up plan.

As long as the weights are arranged in a circle perpendicular to the barrel and ahead of the net, and the net isn't in a knot, it will open properly.

You also will have to have a much more aggressive rifling than the Spudtech barrels to get the net to open quick enough. Otherwise you'll end up shooting a "taco"(cast net term if you're not familiar).

I wonder how the heck the japanese got they're tiny little air compressed net shooter to work.

Anyways, I bought some of the materials today to build the concept design and I"ll definately keep all of your suggestions in mind. :D
