Exactly
A extension to move back the sealing face it's a good idea, the piston can be simpler and consequently lighter- faster opening and more power. But either way, without a chronograph I don't think the power will vary noticeably (JSR may say otherwise, I'm just too lazy to think about this matter thoughtfully )

I was refering to the simple tool you called "el presto changeo" . I assume you made that custom to your barrel i.d. size ? I've got lots of .490" lead I would be able to presto-changeo into .470". (should have built the gun around the ammo supply )

Why not an off-the-shelf QEV and pop-off?
Wait, are you planning something like this?
Never had much luck with this configuration, they all cycled way too fast to be useful.

Thanks again for your input guys, it's a big help.
Dajaro, yes, it's just a hole in a piece of steel. I made it a couple thou smaller than my barrel ID. I didn't want to ream the entire length of the barrel to 5/8th's, which I should have, like you said, "make the gun suit the ammo". Wood workers use these to make dowels. If you are using lead, I'm sure a tapered bore would squeeze it into shape nicely.

I figured if I made my own, I could increase the volume of the chamber?
Looking good, let's see this thing empty a magazine
Well the wife left, and took the kids to her mom's for the night, so I said to heck with the basement reno, let's blow some sh#t up!!;

I figure a small chamber hidden in the pistol grip would suffice.

Ha! It looks like we suffer from the same affliction.
If anybody is wondering about safety; I used wooden dowels for the test, the gun was remotely fired and I was wearing a face shield and hard hat.
I figure a small chamber hidden in the pistol grip would suffice.
Yeah, it would sure save me a lot of work...
Here is the latest interpretation of the drum magazine;

My god, that's beautiful!
I am not impressed easily, but I think that might just be the most intricate and detailed magazine mechanism I have ever come across on the files, and it works beautifully too!
I have to be honest, the amount of stuff people put on here without having any desire to make it is rather astonishing at times, and when you posted your CAD design I had my doubts it would ever be made, but I have to say, I am very impressed, I'm really looking forward to what the finished thing will look like!

Thanks Cammy! I really appreciate the compliment. I like to think that when I say I'm going to do something, it gets done. Maybe not right away...
There is a slight hesitation under a full load, so I think I'll beef up the spring a bit.
STG, fully loaded, 5 1/4 pounds. Probably less than the real thing.
Cheers!

The snail drum mag mechanisim looks so cool that you should machine the lid from transparent polycarbonate.. or at least you could make a small polycarbonate window in the aluminium one to see how many rounds you have left
Looking very goood ! and that's said by a full time cnc machinist.
..Oh and when you get it done don't forget to get it anodized, it will make it look nice and it also makes aluminium much more wear resistant. You probably knew that, but just reminding
