Hmm, I guess that limits your options then. Perhaps use (as others have suggested) several smaller cannons operating on the same trigger? Should cut construction costs a bit if you use a cheap valve.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

I spent like 20mins finding a video I saw a while back then I reread your post and it said "dirt" I though fire for some reason if this is any help here is a guy shooting fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UJW-wqwF8w have to skip half of the video to get to the good part
