It wont hit 45 degrees with the current jack pivot points and leverage ratio, but I dunno if I really wanna shoot this thing to it's full potential anyways lol (distance wise that is)
While 45 degrees is theoretically the best possible angle to have, (if you are going for distance) in truth it is slightly over that because of gravity and air friction. 50-55 degrees will give best results.

(hey! I actually learned something in physics this year :roll: )

Overall though, I do like the stand. It looks like it will be easier to move and still gets the job done.

Actually, it's slightly less than 45 degrees for more distance....check out the ballistics tool in ggdt or hgdt, it'll give you optimum angles for distance...

This thing is getting big... lol

In the view from the front, it looks like half the barrel is off the supports, but that's just the perspective lol, Only about 4 feet are off the supports, the other 6 feet are strapped down tightly.

Well I finally got this bastard braced up and ready for the legs and wheels. I have a question to anyone interested in this wee little pea shooter... What should I do for a paintjob? I was most likely going to grey primer the whole thing, go for the "prototype" look... not to mention it's alot easier than some crazy digital camo dealy.

I will prolly spray the whole thing when it's close to assembled, or assembled... I just can't live with letting this beaut go unpainted lol... not after waiting 2 years just to go from drawings to assembly.

I'll keep it updated, this guy should be tossing stuff by this coming weekend.

I think you are going to like it. Nice job. If you are in the neighborhood, we'll have to shoot some water jugs. I'll have to finish the 7 gallon 3 inch 200 PSI and compare notes.

As far as paint, what type preference do you have? Military, subtle humor, bright danger brainiac style, industrial mythbusters style? Do you prefer solids, cameo, artwork?

I was thinking it may be fun to paint it to match your compressor in the background and letter the barrel with a logo, name, or something.

EDIT, you could do a 10 gallon cowboy hat theme to state the size. :D

I personally am a military styled guy. Flat black and grey all the way! Add a nice decal and its ready to roll.

Maybe you should make an Abrams to go with it :roll:

Well the stand is done... It's alot heavier than I imagined lol. It's also alot harder to "jack" up... requiring a ratchet for the first 10 degrees - largely due to the high leverage ratio, and the jacks' own leverage curve... which is definitely not linear. I was using my cordless on low to provide quick jacking, and it worked great... until my FET's burned up and released the majik smoke... Now I need to find out what power chip burned and go to mouser to get a new one or two lol.

Needless to say it's done, and I didn't need to change a thing from the CAD's except adding extra supports at one spot which were more for insurance than anything. Oh yea and I increased the rear wheelbase from 24" wide to 36" wide... mainly just because I wanted to lol.

Painting next? I guess. I don't know how much this beast actually weighs but it's going to be a bitch to move around I can tell you that lol. Now for shooting it... It should do that pretty well.. and I have a 55 gallon drum FULL of 20-24oz soda bottles, and lots of the 16.9 oz water bottles, all great ammo for this beast. I also want to get a cheap pack of soda and shoot them lol, I have always wanted to... We have 2 bigger screend CRT tely's that are asking to be shot... as well as some microwaves and other appliances lol.

I was able to wheel 'er out today! take a gander at her size.

I took a few shots, the highest pressure was 40PSI. Needless to say its POWERFUL!! It throw's 20oz bottles full of water and full soda can's amazingly fast, and with a very level trajectory considering my 250ft backyard there was little to no arch in the trajectory of the shot lol. Yea I know... PICTURES PICTURES VIDEO's DESTRUCTION!!

That's coming, but the weather will not be cooperative tomorrow so it will polly be sometime next week until I get it to a legitimate "shooting range".

That is just one hell of a cannon. Actually, thats like a cannon and a half at least. It looks really cool with the base. It even has wheels. You might need a bigger car though lol. Unless you plan on towing it. It does have wheels I see.

moving it around is a bitch lemme tell you!

I however am planning on attaching a metal tow ring to the front of the wooden frame, and using a homemade version of this

to move it around then.

other than that, it's extremely comfortable staying in one place and having the target move for it lol.

And I would DEFINITELY not use that Honda to move it lol, although the idea of mounting it to the roof surely arose quite a few times during construction of the current frame lol. I use the Honda mainly for commuting, and have an SUV on the side, but even that cannot fit this little guy in the back - I will need to get one of my buddies with an 8ft bed truck to transport this sadly.

Edit - on a side note, all the test firings have been done with a 1" ball valve sofar, and I didn't even try to open it fast. I did that for one last shot yestarday, and the pitch of the shot when from "whooshhh" to "CRACK!!!" so if that's any indication of things to come, this guy is going to be one violent bottle tosser. I need to get a sprinkler valve that works though as the one I had set aside for this is not currently porting correctly, and instead of letting all the air out of the pilot at once, it just seems to leak alot of air? It may be due to my piston not having a good enough rear seal... something I should probably work on.
