If you could find a way to mix oxygen and propane together in plastic pipe so that you wouldn't have to vent each shot, would you do it?
(Test question)

No i wouldn't because it sounds dangerous and im not quite sure what you are talking about??

I believe that that was the correct answer. Too much inherent danger and risk of autoignition of the mixture.
Now, onto your question: You should start by looking at the several hundred other handheld pneumatic cannons in the showcase. That should give you loads of design ideas.

Welcome to the forums (i've always wanted to say that)
And if you need any info check
here
That should give you the basics of pneumatics to make it hand held maybe downsizing or it doesn't really matter but manouverability might be a problem.
As DYI said, check the
showcase

just use pressure rated PVC and look in the how to section on how to mod a sprinkler valve.

Just look around the forums, and you're sure to find something good.

If I were you, I'd just make a simple ball valve cannon because they're easy and give you a good basic understanding for pneumatics. But if you want to use a sprinkler valve, go for it! They are much better, and aren't that complex. Make sure not to use DWV fittings by the way.

Also, there's a good sprinkler valve modding sticky in the how-to section here:

Uhhh... To make a tank, Get some sch 40 pvc that is pressure rated. It will say on the pipe.
Now, verrrry carfully, so as not to upset him , slowly aproach a worker and ask him to fetch you some pvc cement and primer. If you are advanced do it yourself.
Now, glue the pipe and to your fittings together acording to your designs without killing yourself.
If you want some real help, search the forms for "pnuematic plans" or "pnuematic schematics".

no, dont ask the people at the hardware store. they dont know anything. just get the can that says "purple primer" and "pvc cement" they sometimes come together.
