First off.. Thank you Spudfiles... I made this spudgun with information from this site..
.. I am in the Army and we train soldiers that are mobilizing on how to react in combat.. we try to replicate battlefield conditions as much as we can... sooo I figured... why can't we shoot nerf footballs at the convoys with a spudgun to replicate RPG fire.. sooo I started studying ... and got ideas from here.. my chain of command loves the idea and plan on incorporating it into existing training....
Specs..
3" X 30" barrel
4" X 35" pressure chamber
Modded orbit 1"
tire air valve
air pressure gauge..
Nerf syle "spiderman" football
"cool guy" digital style paint job

we use an oxygen bottle to fill it because it is easier while we are in the field...
video is short and not the best but it is accurate up to about 50m and at 45 degree angle will shoot over 200m.. the detonation in the last half of the clip is from a scopis device with simulates tank fire or IEDs...

Thanks again.. enjoy..

Nice stuff, although in the second shot, it does sound like it's venting alot of air before it fires.

I would probably go with a bigger valve like an inch and a half but all in all it looks good and if it works for what you are using it for that's cool as sh!t
Yea, that's definitely going to get you at least a tazer.

I went with the 1" because that was the largest valve they had at Lowe's, Menard's or Home Depot... plus they are 15 bucks or so.. and I looked at 2"ers online they were closer to 70... soo 15 bucks was easier to get the chain 'o' command to foot the bill for..

Very nice, good basic setup. Welcome to spudfiles and hope you stick around.

It could do with a longer barrel, you could probably cut 5" of the chamber, and add about a foot to the barrel to get better results.

Well, it i am glad to see our that our research is benefitting the Army.

There are a bit of modifications you can do to make it better but it looks like the performance is good for what you are using.

If you want to increase the performance you can always go with a bigger sprinkler valve or a piston and such.

Glad we can help :)

Damn.. can't believe I forgot to mention that.. we use it at 80psi... I'd like to use a larger sprinkler valve... maybe I'll order one off the net.. what's the best site? I'm all ears to mods to make it better... just remember... I am not trying to put a hole in the HMMWV  .. I want to stick with the spiderman nerf ball too.. its very durable.. and cheap 2.99 at meijer..

You will see an amazing increase in performace if you double the barrel size.

Maybe you could convince your C/O's to let you make an "Artillery Simulator", you know, something on the scale of Hitlers railway guns! I spose it would just be a big Pumpkin Chucker but it would be cool to have the military spending at least some of it's budget on such a device.
Who uses the Oxygen in the field otherwise- the medics? I can just imagine...

Private Dan,"MEDIC!!!, WE NEED A MEDIC OVER HERE NNNOOOWWW"
Medic, "Ok who has been hit..."
Private Dan "Oh nah mate i just need to fill up me rpg launcher, theres a convoy on it's way!"

ha.. we use O2 bottles for our Pneumatic machine gun too... its run using O2 mixed with Propane, a spark plug and some metal welded together to look like a crew serve weapon.. I get to have lots of fun at work.. I work on the counter IED team.. sooo basically I teach classes on IEDs.. I make training IEDs that look and operate like the ones in theatre and I use them to trian soldiers to be more prepared for combat... its fun..

Now this is something we need more info on. When you say "Pneumatic" Machine Gun, that runs off O2 and Propane, do you really mean "Kick Ass Hybrid"? Or is the oxygen used so one doesn't have to vent the chamber? Who designed this? Like i said any info about this MG would be greatly appriceated.

ok ok.. U are right.. its more "hybrid" than pneumatic.. but.. it is just an intricate noise maker... nothing fires outta it.. well.. fire does.. but no projectiles.. just gets them thinking about being engaged.. then we rain down on them with paintballs and stuff.. I guess if you are still interested in it.. i can take pics of it on Monday..

Now that sounds interesting. If you could, it would be very beneficial if you could get the design of the O2 "machine gun" because it would help some of our members try to achieve a good pneumatic machine gun that is powerful.

Also what does IED stand for.
