I want to make a burst disk spudgun(they are pretty powerful)

And i wanna know:

Does a cam lock make a good burst disk holder?

Does someone knows about a electricly activated piston(to break burst
disk)?

and as far as the electrically activated burst disks i know people on here have taken an electric ram and put a broad head on the tip to pierce the burst disk

That was actually a pneumatic ram, but the principle is the same.

For mortar style cannons it also works pretty good to make a sharp pin at the butt of your projectiles and thus the burst disk bursts as soon as you drop a projectile down the barrel.

You can also electrically trigger a burst disk by using a plastic disk and a heating filament. JSR built one using this method a while ago.

The plastic ones are rated at 150 psi, metal ones 250 psi. From my experience with these, these numbers are reasonably conservative.

Check out my triple thunder combustions. I used multilayers of blue masking tape as the burst material.

When i was to rona, i founded a metal 1 1/2 camlock and see then the mecanism was simple:two levers hold the pipe in piece, so normally air would pass around the burst disk where there is no levers... does it does?

Yes

As clide mentioned you can have a loop of nichrome wire sandwiched between two burst disks and have it melt the disks when current is passed through it, however I found this to be tedious and inconsistent to use.

Yes you should be fine with foil.



Females on the left, males on the right. The two arms with rings in them swing back to lock the cams into the the ring around the end of the male section, easy.

Ok... but not alot of people use it :tongue7:

1-Because not everyone can buy one in the local hardware store
2-Unions are higher rated, and most hybrid (and pneumatic) cannons need that rating.
3-Because of that rating camlocks are only suitable for combustions or low ti medium-pressure (not more then 150psi) pneumatics, and there simply are not many combustions or medium pneumatics around since burst disks are usually used for extreme cannons. (ultimate valve)
