Hey guys. I was just thinking and had the idea to take a ball valve (probably 1") and plug one end of the ball somehow. Then make it where you can spin it a full 360 degrees around and around (it could be spun by a small drill for full auto). Every time it turned around to the back, where a chamber would be, the small space in the ball would fill with air. When the opening of the ball is spun to the front, the air is released into a small barrel (maybe 1/4"). You could also use a blow forward bolt.
OR:
Take a 1" ball valve. Put a plug in one end and make the barrel come out the side. When you turn the valve to open, the ball would fill with air. When you close it the air would be shot into the barrel. (I guess the same as a 3-way valve)

I haven't seen anyone do this but if they already have, i'm not taking credit for the idea.

It would be cool to see this used by someone else because there isn't a huge chance i would try it.

I hope i explained it good enough to get what I'm talking about.

Yeah kinda but that's used to load the gun. My idea would actually be for the valve.

Or how bout you get 2 ball valves, modify them so they can spin a full 360 then make one load marbles like JSR said, and have the other one linked with gears so you have simple cycling full auto. The first one provides a burst of air synchronized with the second ones loading.

You would need more force to spin the valves than the small volume would generate to push the projectile....

But hey..if you feel like trying it...

hey I like it!!

well acctually I think that it would make more sense to use a qev and pilot/fill it with a spoolvalve but the motor would turn the ballvalve to load ammo... with each turn the gun would fire

it could be either mechanically actuated or electrically with a micro switch that would fire the gun when the ball valve is fully open...

of course it might be tricky to get the right timing as the ball valve would be still spining as the QEV fires

I thought of something similair, but without the valve being plugged.

I hate to rain on the parade of great ideas, but I was playing with it for a bubble gum ball machine gun. The biggest problem is the fact the ball valve does not seal the magazine before opening to the chamber. When the ball valve is not at one position or the other (load/fire) it is open to both. This lets the chamber pressure escape out the magazine and prevents loading.

I like the idea, but it needs work to deal with the geometry of the ball valve at angles other than 90 or 0 degrees of turn. :( Solving the flow path opened at 45 degrees is going to be difficult.

Been suggested many times before.
I am surprised JSR did not link to something from 1982 [/jke]... :P

As far as the valve leaking into the mag, It looks like the pressure volume of the internal part of BV will always dump into the magazine, building little by little unless the mag has small vent holes.

Are you jesting by referring to it as a "Leak"? I can thread clothsline through the valve from the magazine, loop through the barrel and back into the chamber with the valve at 45 degrees. It's open both ways.

I do joke a lot lately, but no.
the pressure chamber valve will close before the magazine block valve opens.
The projectile would block flow until inline with barrel.(maybe that's cause for misinterpretation(???))
So, I don't understand the confusion(?)
I've never built one, nor have much interest in doing so.
But when thought out, it's only flaw IMO is that the left over pressure, after proj. exits (trapped in BV) will inevitably dump into mag.

If I'm wrong I'll admit it this time Tech... 8)
