Hey all ,

Im in the middle of building a hammer valve setup, and wanted to throw some ideas around i was hoping for all your help ..

First of all i take no credit for any of these ideas or setup's as i have just adopted them for my own :) Thank you too all who have come up with some great ideas, you will all know who you are..

This discussion should help any one who wants to build a hammer valve setup either to be used for plinkers, up to big bore cannons depending on your taste, i myself am chasing the small cal. plinker :o

So i know what your all thinking just through something together and glue it on it will work , Well yes and no , thats good for the quick build that you really dont want to repair or tune later. My mission is to build a 'production' based cannon that will be easy enough for most builders out there to build, while still able to dismantle, repair, tune and reconstruct only by a couple screws and fittings while looking appealing and rather realistic. utilising accuracy over power or damage ... repeater  over single shot .

I Want to know if anybody has any solid plans on making the hammer, hammer tube, sear, trigger !?

Just So you all know where im coming from i've made a ruff copy to show you all. The real plans are to make this thing run on co2 or hpa but for now this setup consist of a ABS air chamber (using shop air 120psi max ) a 1/4 tee hammer valve (Valve is a long bolt with filed nuts and o'ring as a sealing face, similar to Btb's & sniper hero's etc )which connects to a parallel 9/32 brass barrel located in the middle of a 12mm ally sleeve (sorry for the unit changes) and shoots 1/4 steel bearings. works fine now being assembled minus the hammer tube and trigger.

Sooo , what i want to do is using brass fittings, tread a hammer tube (Pice of brass or ally etc) straight on to the "T" piece BSP thread. Now the brain storm starts on making a sear/trigger setup which is relatively easy enough to copy.

"how should the sear sit, how should i attach the trigger mechanism to the hammer tube ?" I have a few idea's and will post a few diagrams a bit later , but for now any comments would be great 8)

Sorry for the pic's, i left my camera cord at work so these are from my phone . Im also new to posting so let me know where i've gone wrong.

Thanks

Do you plan to sell plans, sell complete guns or offer open source directions to builders?

You can use either a hammer that travels in a straight path (similar to that on an automatic or bolt action rifle) or a hammer that travels in a curved path (similar to on a revolver).

For a quick solution, something like a cap gun or electronic solenoid could be adapted.

Should be fairly self explanatory.

And again.

With lower pressures, fairly heavy projectiles and a hammer valve you'll probably find it lacks a little power, but plinking with it should be good. Get back to us with some results

i plan to make it an open source directions to builders once operational .

No the hammer has to be a slide hammer as above but diagrams just aren't the same as building

i've tested this at 100psi at 5m aiming at a coke can just by pressing the button and holding it and i was surprised with how accurate and powerful it was so im looking forward to this :)

Where would you like to place the trigger?

There are lots of ways to build it.
\the most important thing is where you want to place the trigger.
If you want it in front of the hammer or behind it determins the set up.

Very good point to bring up !! i would like it to be as far back as possible as i would like it to be set up with a wooden stock in a traditional rifle setup like your old shatterhand. really i want to make the same as btb but use a slidding / strike :) hammer. i wouldn't mind if it was forward as long as there was a way to run the trigger near the rear of the tube ( cam gear and trigger rod maybe?? )that wouldn't bother since i will be making covers for it .

i don;t know wether to build everything (trigger, sear etc) in a complete unit like a springer trigger or to weld it straight to the tube ...

I made a hammer and tube(housing) over the weekend but found that the force on the back of the hammer is hard to hold with the sear, unless the sear has a rather long catch which makes the trigger pull really long . i have filed a bolt head down to the same size as the tube to stop the hammer from tilting in travel but think i will need to file a nut down to go on the back to stop the back from lifting or dropping.

Question - how long should the hammer be ? how long should the spring be? how much travel should the hammer have? also where should the sear catch the hammer ? - i know this will all determine on the size im looking for but excamples if you had any would be greatly appriecated

here are some excamples ..

WHY PAY FOR IT WHEN U CAN MAKE IT?
