Now Im going to wager a guess here and say that P means Pilot, but what do "A" and "R" mean? Which one connects to the pressure chamber and which goes to the barrel?

Thanks in advance for the help.

"R" is the barrel (it's in line with the QEV piston) and "A" is the chamber.

That's quite a big QEV unless you have tiny hands what's it going to be mounted on?

A means aircilinder as that is what they are normally supposed to empty( just a guess) it's where the reservoir goes.. :D
R means....
I wouldn't know...but that is where the barrel goes..
Normally a silencer or muffler would be placed there.

I know my QEV's but I have no idea about the meaning of the letters.

Darn you JSR...you should be off doing science!!
And what's with the focus on bodily appendages??

QEV RULE OF THUMB:
The chamber is always on the side. (perpendicular)

Unless you have a chambersealer, but almost all QEV's are barrelsealers.
It also excludes any nonstandard designs, which aren't configured like a T.

It is possible to figure out pilot and barrel side by looking in the holes and poking the piston around or blowing in it.

I made one into a chamber sealer...but turned it back into a barrel sealing high flow piston valve.

I had no time to look inside any holes or poke anything today. :D

Too busy building the Pnuschnikov into full auto..

Regarding the markings on the QEV:

P usually means Pressure (or pressure source, IE your air line)
A is for Air Cylinder (or Actuator), As Brian stated
R is for Relief or Release, as this is where the air from your cylinder is exhausted / purged.

In most commercial applications for a QEV, you have an air cylinder attached to where your chamber (or resevoir) would be connected.

To the port marked P, where your fill and pilot would be located, they normally attach an air line, which would be used to actuate the air cylinder.

To the R port, where you would connect your barrel, they would connect an exhaust silencer or muffler, to deaden the sound of the exhaust air being purged from the cylinder.

Normally, a QEV is used to speed up the actuation of an air cylinder or air ram, they put in pressure, and the cylinder extends, they pilot the valve, and the cylinder quickly retracts.

Just trying to help clarify what these valves are supposed to be used for, lol! :D
