What the hell? Earlier, I was shooting my co ax. Then the piston's neoprene rubber gasket sealing face just blew out the barrel. I have no idea hot this could have happened. But I fixed it

It's not all that unusual, and yet another reason to obey that all important firearms safety rule - NEVER point the muzzle at anything you're not prepared to destroy.

With homemade launchers, you can never be entirely sure that it's not suddenly going to fire for any reason whatsoever.

This is a common problem, its probably because the rubber got ripped off the bolt holding it down, or the epoxy came lose if thats what you used, what pressure were you shooting at, most of the other reported cases were at around 80 psi

Yup, happens all the time. That's why I don't recommend people gluing sealing faces on unless they're dealing with small diameter barrels. A bolt and washer is usually best, if that option isn't available, epoxy.

Well it didn't really blast out. I actually had my finger in the barrel. Thats how I felt it come out.

Let this be a lesson to everyone here.
Stay clear of the valve when it's pressurised
Don't look or feel down a barrel when the gun is pressurised or fueled.

And don't use faulty checkvalves...

We should make people aware of all safety rules. If I didnt knew them, all those nail dart misfires would of ended up in my foot (or somewhere else) rather then downrange

Was your sealing face glued on or secured with a bolt?

Always use a bolt and the largest washer possible (~1mm smaller than barrel ID)
Bit of glue around the bolt as well to prevent leaking around the bolt.



You are lucky. If a rubber sealing face comes off at a high pressure gun your finger would be.. gone.

So even when there's no projectile, there still is a chance of being one.
Pressurized spudgun = loaded spudgun.

No more finger tricks.
Even just air can rip limbs off.

The other day, when I was testing my new pump with Kopperbess, I forgot to close the main valve (the one that actually fires it), prior to charging the chamber with the valve on my reserve. Whoops! The marble in the breech shot into the snow covered ground! I always keep all my airguns pointed in a safe direction when charging and loading.

Of course, at the time, I totally forgot rule number two:
Loading ammo should always be the last step prior to firing, unless the design disallows this (such as with my Daisy 880, which cannot be pumped until a pellet is chambered). Luckily, I always follow rule number 1, and nobody was hurt, and no property was damaged. whew!

Needless to say, I always point my airguns at the ground or another safe direction prior to firing; You never know when they'll go off inadvertently, no matter how well designed they are.

Please explain to all of us why you felt so inclined to put your finger into the barrel? I've been trying to think of a legitimate reason all day and just can't do it. In fact, the ONLY reason I could think of is that you were trying to imitate Looney Tunes.

It is secured with a bolt and washer... but the washer is just big enough to hold it on. I now have 2 of them on it.

My gun is acting wierd... The only way for my piston to move was to plug the barrel so I just used my finger...don't ask why... and plop, I feel the rubber washer on my finger
