made a new video with a more challenging target for you guys. im not too sure what happened to the sound but i just wanted to get the video up and working. the particle board seems to be very impact resistant so thats why i stoped shooting at it
also its uploaded in 1080p so you would be the best off by clicking the link to the youtube page

so this past weekend i made a Semi automatic golf ball cannon. besides the parts i already i had i spent a total of about $50 and it is well worth it.

for the main valve it is just a standard 2inch piston valves with 1.8inch porting. the pilot is what makes it semi and since it is a 3 way valve it vents the entire chamber each shot. i didnt make a fancy valve that got multiple shots off a one chamber fill because i wanted to keep it simple and powerfull.

the loading mech is a blowforward bolt fed from a tee mag that currently holds 9 golf balls.

i have a 24v solinoid on the 3way so the trigger is a momentary switch mounted in a pvc handle.

now for the fun pics!

<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9888.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9888.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
the veiw of the hole launcher

<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9889.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9889.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
showing the 3/4inch 3 way valve and the 3/8inch regulator. the 3way is indirect acting so it is a bit slow under 50psi so i keep my minimum operating pressure at 60psi so it always works

<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9891.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9891.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
the housing for the BFB that is made from 2.5inch sdr 26 (yes a sodacan barrel)

<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9893.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9893.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
the simple pistol grip

<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9894.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9894.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
my piston that works great even through it has duct tape on it  but i think the golfball washer makes up in awesomeness

<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9895.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9895.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
the bolt and return spring. after i changed the bolt the holes on the side became useless but i dont feel like making a new one and it doesnt hurt anything

<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9896.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9896.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
my completly HOLLOW bolt, even through it is not blocked off at the one end it still accuates fully. when i started the one end was blocked off and this caused the bolt to fly forward too fast and break stuff so i found the solution

And what you all are looking for, the damage pic
<a href="http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9887.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv32 ... 0_9887.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
this started out as a peice of 1/2inch plywood and my cannon makes easy work of it. the pile of splinters is what is left of the center of the board that i racked out of the grass (PITA) i did this damage is 4 or 5 clips of 9 balls. all of this was done at 70psi becuase my blanket backstop has a hard time stoping the balls even after going through the plywood

oh and the barrel and mag currently on it are sdr26 so it is a little loose fit but dont worry the proper sdr21 barrel is on the way and it will be longer (about a 1ft longer than the current) also i will make a larger magl.

after seeing me shooting this my neighbor has donated about 50 golfballs and a door for a target. the door will definetly be filmed!

And now the video!

all the shots were done at 70psi and yes i know some golfballs fell out. i fixed this by sorting out the small balls from the rest so now they all work. sorry about the second clip the camera must have sliped or something but you get the point of it.
a stonger target is definetly in order

WOW! very cool launcher you got there! you must have a good sized air compressor to fire that things semi automatically.
very ghetto piston, i hope it holds up for you, at least its serviceable
and that 3-way valve! that thing had to have set you back a pretty penny there!
I love lamp

Wow you've certainly come a long way since you started out. I'm impressed :)
How much did that 3/4" 3 way valve set you back? Looks expensive haha.
You know I wont be happy till I see a video! :P

Good stuff!

thank you very much! and no my compressor is not large, its a 6 gallon but it can keep up for a 9 shot clip at up to 80psi.

the only part on the piston that will fail is the tape and thats weill quite easy to replace. the piston is hollow so no its not heavy
the 3 way valve didnt even cost me a ugly penny. it was free!

@mrcrowly, i have come a ways and ive made some impressive guns you havent seen yet because im too lazy to post them!

Everything about this is nice...

Except for the grip and lack of paint

I am a bit curious as to how your bolt still actuates. I'm assuming that there's at least one perpendicular face upon which the pressure can act. Otherwise I'm completely baffled.

Probably could have gone for a smaller chamber size if it vents completely for every single shot.

on the bolt the only surfaces the air acts on is then end of the pipe and the machine screw going through the center. neither of which provide much area for the air. the fact that it accuates fully surprized me too. be keep in mind that the bolt starts inside the pipe the piston seals on.

That's what I was thinking. It's a truly efficient bolt system then.
Any chance of a firing video? I'd like to see the thing in action.

I agree, any sort of repeating action demands a video! But I really like what I see so far, kudos :)

Impressive!

How big is your air compressor and about many shots do you get before having to wait on the compressor to catch up?

nice gun man !!

So how much power does your solenoid take , and how long do your batteries last ?

Also is there any chance you could explain the bolt for me   how long is the pipe the piston seals on & does your barrel run through the t ?

Conceptually it should be similar to the bolt on clide's legendary GB semi:

yes the concept is the same but my bolt does not have the right hand side nlocked off like in that diagram. since my air no longer has to go around the bolt then into the bolt via holes i saved some preformace lose do to chocked flow. but in the end its still limited to the 1 1/4 ID of the bolt
