my 3/4" orbit sprinkler valve honks when i'm filling it, should i remove this white plastic filter-like thing from the existing equalization hole?

sorry for no pics, and i would have done a search, but my neighbors internet is really slow today XD

yeah, sorry.

epoxied the solenoid hole and tapped a hole in the center for a blowgun, couldn't find any leaks.

anyone ever seen one of these? it's like a little white tab with a pointed stud through the equalization hole holding it on to the diaphraghm. on closer inspection it's hollow, the tab part is made up like a two tiny screens and there is a hole in the stud flowing through to the pilot chamber

my guess is it keeps air bubbles from catching the equalization hole in normal sprinkler use

I have that in mine too, and it honks when filling rapidly, but when using like a bike pump it doesn't. I didn't try taking mine out ot anything, worrying that it might mess up the phragm. Maybe you could make your own phragm or mod it into a piston valve?

hmmm... tough decision

i think this piece is why it is honking though, it really slims the equalization hole down to like a needle...

plus i made this launcher intending to use 12g co2...

i'll try filling it with my bike pump, but i think i'm gonna go ahead and take it out

Be careful taking it out, it could screw up the whole phragm.

take it out. It limits how fast you can fill. I know for a fact that it will not damage the diaphragm

Oh cool. I might do that next time mine is open, if ever.

Yeah, that one of the reasons Im not a huge fan of sprinkler valves, a 2 inch piston valve can be made for the same price and is easy to fix, If you dont want to remove it completly you could drill a larger hole

Yeah I take those out on all of mine and leave the spring in... Once you take it out it should have enough flow to not honk...

well, i ended up leaving it in and moved the fill valve to a tee before the blow gun and the launcher works "great" now(i'm sure there's room for improvement). I used it this weekend at an airsoft event to launch foam rockets at an "enemy APC". Worked out pretty well, i was one of the few people there with a launcher and we managed to capture the enemy APC twice after i disabled it. I'll probably put some pictures up in the showcase soon, hopefully the people taking video/pics at the event caught me on camera in action.
