At first I was guessing it might be on backwards  ... But then I saw that it shot, so I'd say, take it apart and see if there's a little filter thing stuck through the diaphragm.
I always take those out.
What is probably happening it the air in is pushing the diaphragm open (making it honk) before the air can equalize on the pilot side...
It taking out this filter doesn't work (or you already did), try filling it slower or just a little at a time.
Good luck!!! :D

edit: BTW if you took the spring out, put that back in...

That, my friend, is one form of the infamous "honk". It is produced in a sprinkler valve when the diaphragm is vibrating back and forth rather quickly. Most of the time, it occurs during the pilot exhaust, but sometimes it happens like this too.

This particular honking is probably caused by the equalization hole in the diaphragm. It's not allowing the pilot volume to equalize with the chamber volume quickly enough.

As far as performance goes, it doesn't seem to interfere with the launcher, other than the rather neat sound it makes. It just takes a little longer for it to fill.

Now, as far as fixes go:
- You could hold your hand over the barrel while filling it.
- Did you remove the filter from the diaphragm when it was modded?
- If you removed the spring, put it back in.
- You can try moving the fill valve to the pilot area.

1take it apart and clean it with soap and water to make sure there is no debris in it.
2shorten the hose to the blow valve, or attach it to the sprinkler valve itself.
3mod the blow valve
4try it with something in a barrel.
