GGDT is Giving me a Headache

Ok, I Know that most people who post here are computer literate and I know that I am not so I don't want anyone flaming me for asking stupid questions, or not reading instructions or not searching or any of that. I'm just bad with computers, not lazy.
I've searched the forums and have in fact seen this question multiple times but most of the time, the answer was never given. Usually, they got flamed.
I've downloaded the program, unzipped it and saved it to my computer. I read the instructions on the site and, to the best of my knowledge, followed them correctly. But when I try to run it, It comes up with an error message saying 'Component MSCHRT20.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.' What am I doing wrong?
I know that the answer may be painfully obvious to some of you but please, don't flame

That file should be included in the ZIP download. (And I have just checked...)
Are you sure you've downloaded the appropriate package, extracted it all (it won't work if you just try and run it from the "unzip preview"), then kept it all in the same folder (as opposed to moving the executable somewhere else), rather than just downloading the executable?
Oh yeah, one other question... what's your operating system? Simple question, but it's important to know so we don't waste time talking about fixes for another system.

I think I had the same problem, but I'm not sure how I fixed it. I think I right clicked on it and clicked "Run as Administrator".

Thanks Ranger, That was the trick! I don't really know why that would work but it did!

Glad you got it working. After you do that once, you should never have to do it again.

Neither do I, unfortunately. There's nothing in HGDT/GGDT that should require admin privs. Thus is the wonder of Vista.

By default, even if you're logged in with an administrator account, Vista does not run most programs with administrator privileges. I believe this is supposed to be a "security feature" so that programs which you did not intend to start (malware) do not by default have admin privileges.
In Windows 7 at least, you can go into the properties window and check a box so that it will always run with admin privileges.

Thanks, I've just tried it, finally GGDT & HGDT on the i3. I tried
downloading it again, unpacking it, every other darn thing and something
else.
This is on Win 7, but I didn't have any problems with Vista
(1.66 GHz Celeron dual core, 1Gb RAM, 256Mb VRAM)
This i3 smokes it (2.23 GHz, 4Gb RAM, 1Gb dedicated VRAM).
Can't wait for GGDT & HGDT to never slow down again.

Here's a bump... and a slightly different problem.
Running HGDT on Vista for quite a while, now. After putting in different parameters to 'tweak' a design it would lock up (Not Responding). In the last few days its gotten to the point where if I change any parameter after the first calculation, it locks up (Not Responding). Got any idea why?
Edit: I let it run (for a really long time) after it locked up. Error message: Runtime error 6 - overflow. Would that have to do with my computer or just the program itself??

Memory leak? Try opening Task Manager and watching the CPU and memory usage as time passes, see if they increase without you actually doing anything. If that doesn't work, try running in compatibility mode if you can.
If none of that works, remove the program, run CCleaner to clean up the registry and try again.

GGDT/HGDT don't actually use the register for anything (I'm old school and ignorant so I simply put everything in the program directory).
I do agree, however, that it sounds like a memory leak. That's more than a bit odd though. I didn't use any dynamic memory routines. The only routine that MAY use dynamic memory is the MSCHRT .dll file. Actually, it probably does use dynamic memory but since it's a routine authored by MicroSoft one would think it'd have been well tested and not have any memory leaks (insert MS joke here).
Personally, I'd just try a reboot first.
edit: Oh, and since this thread started I finally know why GGDT/HGDT have to be run in the admin mode. It's because they were written in Visual Basic 6 which doesn't use the .NET architecture.

I've CCleaned, Defragged, Swapfile Defragged, Defragged the registry, Optimized my boot sequence, and even updated my video drivers that I didn't know were in need of an update. I've rebooted and the problem remains. In my personal opinion, it's the MS routine. Immediately upon changing a parameter the CPU usage goes from about 1% to 50%, with hgdt being the user. Memory usage doesn't seem to change. It jumps around a slight bit, but it does that even without hgdt running. It doesn't, however, trend toward being used more and more.
I must say, though, that my Left 4 Dead 2 games are playing faster now...

Doesn't make any sense at all. When you change a parameter either program resets some text and some flags, but that's it. Nothing CPU intensive happens until you hit the Calculate button.
Where are you downloading the file from? If it's not my site... Well, I've seen some other places offer the software but I've no idea if they're just mirroring my site or doing something underhanded.
