Mauler valve discussion thread.
What is the piston on the mauler valve made of. Is it sheet pvc? The reason I want to know is I might try to make a replica some time for fun.
I meant use a hole saw to cut the cirlcles to put onto a rod then put a sealing face on it.

Its made from a piece of pvc rod, if you dont have a lathe you dont stand a chance of even coming close. Pics at link below..... In my opinion, the supah valve is much better and more powerful

Apparently chronograph results showed that the Mauler is more powerful.
Anyway, why do you want to replicate the Mauler? First of all, it'd be near impossible without a lathe. Second, you don't have to replicate the piston down to using the same material to achieve the same results.

I have a mauler and a supah valve. I put the same barrel and chamber on each valve and the supah valve fired a golf ball through 3 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood and the mauler barely made it through 1 sheet. The supah valve is by far the superior valve of the two. Also the diaphragm valve you have is 100 times better than the supah or mauler valve if you make a good cannon out of it.

That's weird. It should be nowhere near 1/3 the power of a Supah. You may have a sealing problem on your piston's o-ring. If you'd like, I can look into it.mattyzip77 wrote:I have a mauler and a supah valve. I sent you a pm gort. Maybe I just got a bad valve, I dont know,,,,, but as I said the supah seemed to outperform it. I used the same barrel, chamber, pilot, and psi.

Due to the very close dimensions of the piston OD and sealing face OD, the mauler should open faster than a Supah valve although how much is difficult to say.

I noticed that the pictures you posted were of an older version of the piston, so you may just need a new one. I have a modified Mauler valve, and it blew a branch off of a tree. The key with a Mauler compared to a Supah is chamber volume. with the Mauler, the larger the chamber, the more power you get. My golf ball cannon has a two foot by 4" chamber with two 2" 45 degree elbows, one 2" Tee, one 2" Slip To Thread Adapter, and one 2" End Cap. If you put a Supah on my cannon, it wouldn't have a significant increase in performance.mattyzip77 wrote:I sent you a pm gort. Chamber volume only matters to a certain extent. You can only make a chamber so big until size dont matter. I could probably double my chamber volume and it would not.make a signifigant difference. I spoke to Gort and he is supposed to get back to me on making me another one. When or if I get the new one I will run more tests. I have a chronny now. Is your cannon posted? would love to see it. Sounds badass!! Dont get me wrong, the mauler was a great valve while it lasted and I am not putting it down in any way.

It will be up when I get my new piston, back cap, barrel, and screws from Sean. And what do you mean while it lasted?mattyzip77 wrote:Chamber volume only matters to a certain extent. The back adapter that the screws hold in cracked after like 100 to 150 shots, so I jb welded the shit out of it and it fixed the problem for about another 100 shots and then then it stopped sealing. So I said f*#% it and sawzalled the end of in hope to atleast save the piston and when I got it apart the piston was broken. Again, I am not knocking this valve at all, it is a real awesome valve, but like everything plastic it has the possibility of breaking. I have every intention of getting another one, just waiting to hear back from gort. For the record my supah valve also broke which was sent back for repair which was like 60 bucks I think. I have over 40 acres of land so to I go through golf balls like you go through toilet paper. I once went through 600 balls in one day. So my cannons get used and used hard.

Maintenance is key when using a barrel sealing piston valve, or even a chamber sealing piston valve, for every 50 to 100 shots, it should be lubricated, and should be checked every once and a while, and cleaned inside out every once and a while. After minimal use, my Mauler valve was filthy on the inside, so I cleaned it. I also had a cracking issue on my back cap... 3 times in a row actually, so I got a solid cap for it, and I'm going to put in a better bumper, and maybe more screws.mattyzip77 wrote:The back adapter that the screws hold in cracked after like 100 to 150 shots, so I jb welded the crap out of it and it fixed the problem for about another 100 shots and then then it stopped sealing. I took care of it, it was well lubed and cleaned like all my cannons. Great idea with the solid back cap, however the piston is very light, at least mine was. It wouldnt hurt to up your bumper a little bit though. Good luck with it. Have you seen my asco launcher? The power is unreal! I put a golfball through both sides of a steel drum!!!
also the only thing I shoot is golfballs, they dont really get the valve too dirty. I cannot remember the last time I shot a spud.
