CO2 cartridge/reg attachment and check valves

Soo I've got an aquarium reg for 88g CO2 cartridges which I'm using to fill my qev gun. (It doesn't seem to fill to any kind of pressure threshhold and then stop though, it's either just increasing fast or increasing very slowly, but that's beside the point).

I was using that dremeled piece of wood and 4 exhaust clamps to hold the regulator onto the chamber, in such a way that you could remove a spent cartridge and screw in a new one without dismantling anything.

Problem is it looks super extra ghetto and ugly like, and I'm struggling to come up with any better ways to attach it or any other ergonomic bits of wood (such as a pistol grip). Also with this setup the slide valve is pointing the wrong way for easy use, but I want the whole thing to be as compact as possible. Be grateful for some suggestions on that.

Also, I had a check valve before the slide valve, is there any particular reason I shouldn't have removed it?

Cheers!

Reverse the slide valve.

Put an outer barrel on and attach the CO2 underneath in its own tube

Looks like it's a flow regulator, not a pressure regulator.
