Hey guys, I am looking to build a new airgun soon, and I was wondering what is the best valve design to get the most power?
Also maybe can you list some different types of valves and their pros and cons. Thanks.

The best valve is no valve

The downside is that you need a 100% airtight projectile or sabot.
A burst disk would be roughly equivalent, but is a pain to reload for rapid follow up shots.
The QDV is a compromise between valveless type speed and flow and piston valve practicality:

After that there's your usual exhaust valves in the shape of piston valves like QEVs or diaphragm valves like sprinklers.
Most commercial airguns use hammer valves, but they also tend to use very high pressures in the order of 1000-3000 psi.
A more detailed idea of what you want to achieve in terms of a finished result will result in better advice.

If you want to do little work, I highly recommend a dust collector valve. Very fast, powerful, and easy to use....

I want to build an air gun for hunting purposes and so I will be needing high pressure, thinking 1000psi.
