Small QEV Type Valves

Yes, it's another one of these "would people buy valves" topics. But this time it's for 3/4" ported all steel piston valves. I don't have any pics yet, but they will be coming soon. The piston will be solid steel with an O-ring (maybe two) and neoprene bolted to the front. It will look like just a 3/4" steel T with a threaded plug at the end from the side. These would be perfect for exhausting 2 1/2" piston valves or bigger. They are most likely going to be under $20. I could also make them out of PVC for an even cheaper price. They should be able to hold at least 400 psi (I have no idea where to get that kind of pressure except for a paintball tank or a scuba tank).

No they cant take 400 PSI unless they are sch 160. The steel at Homedepot or hardware stores is sch 40 and rated to 150 PSI.

I've taken them a whole lot more than that. My friend has a high pressure bike pump and with his all metal gun we can easily get to like 180+ without anything bad happening.

Rated Pressure and Burst Pressure are two different animals. If you feel safe, pressurize to 180+ and tap it with a ballpeen hammer. Go ahead. I'll have your coffin ready.

You'll buy me a coffin? I'll hold you to that when I die.
I feel perfectly safe taking steel pipe fittings to a pressure as high as I can get it. They're over 1/4" thich, they're galvanized stainless, that's safe enough for me. I'm fine with making valves under $20 that can hold an bunch, works for me. If you don't feel safe with that kind of thing, it's not going to put me off of them. It's ALL steel, including the piston, which is completely solid steel with a rubber washer on the front.

Spudstuff, that's the pressure at which the threads are guaranteed to seal to, the pipe can hold way more than that.

Over in the UK the steel pipe we get is rated to 200 - 300Bar - and thats using compression fittings - i have never come across anything that would be able to generate those pressures to fill it to the max!!!

Exactly. These valves will never bust, therefore making them good for exhausting all metal high pressure piston valved guns, or just for regular pistons too, whatever  .

$20 is not really a bad price at all; its a little bit more expensive than the detrol QEV's from mcmaster.com, but its rated to a higher pressure and may have slightly better performance.

Anyways, make sure to post pictures as soon as you get them!

Yeah 20 bucks is pretty good for an all steel valve. I think with a few pictures and maybe a video, you could get some buyers.

I can't get a video, but I'm working on the valves currently. Anyone know how to cut 7/8" steel bar stock? The only electric tools I have are a drill and a sawzall. The sawzall might work but cutting the bar would dull the blade sooooo fast. There is a guy I could call who owns a machine shop though.... I get to use steel and stuff there for free because the owner thinks the stuff I do with it is awesome. 8)

And another thing, all the valves will have 1/4" female threads for blowgun or ball valve exhaust, you can always change it if you want.

OK, I have all the parts. Someone give me some way to cut this bar crap or no one will ever get any valves.

Hack Saw? Wire saw? Take it to the guy you got it from and have him cut it?

There goes the aspect of "homemade valves"

It's still homemade, just not every piece. I can't make a 3/4" galvanized steel T either, does that count it out of homemade?
Spudstuff, I get it from Ace Hardware, I'm not sure if they can cut it. I just had kind of a "confrontation" with some seriously insane (I seriously think he was INSANE, he had that kind of crazy pop-eyed demented kind of look) Ace employee who told me to "get the f*ck out of the store." "He knows what I'm up to (absolutely nothing)." "He's seen me around almost every day wandering around." "Get your shit together and get out."
I "wander around" because I get out of school at 3:05 and have a job that starts at 4, Ace is right across the street so I hang around there designing things (like these valves) so I can come back later and buy them when I have enough time. The crazy guy first asked me if I was looking for something. I said I was just wandering around and he had the outburst I wrote up there^.
