I just built a gun out of 3\4" tubing, 3\4" sprinkler valve, and a .40 cal blowgun. I made the barrel removable so I can shoot potatoes and paintballs too. My question is, with my 36" .40 cal blowgun barrel (tightly sleeved into 3\4" pvc), can I achieve pinpoint accuracy safetly at any psi? I shot one of my darts at 80 psi and it dissapeared into the woods. Then I shot one at 30 psi and it nailed the tree I was aiming at. I haven't mounted sights yet so the shot was in the vacinity of what I was aiming at. So my question should have been; If I can shoot accurately with this, what is the max psi I can shoot with?

Well because you are using a sprinkler valve dont go over 120psi.

And this thread should be deleted or not answered to any more. Oh or 90 because of the blowgun.

blowgun dont matter, people use the 45psi ones up to 120psi. Theyre fine.

there was another topic somewere around here wer they said its the bits that fit into the blow gun that are rated to like 45psi not the blowgun itself (made of steel afterall) and dont hold me to this if u r killed by shrapnell from ur blow gun exploding u never read this

Yeah it will leak first,and it will leak faster then your pumping(unless you use co2) so its pracitcally impossbile for one of us to blow one up of an 2hp air compressor.

I only fired one dart at 80 psi. The way you guys are talking I can shoot them at higher than 30 psi. Do you think the dart was bent and should I try it again?

Try it again... I wouldnt bring it over 100 tho

If you have plenty of darts, try shooting groups of three at 30psi, then 40psi, so on and so on. How much alike are the darts, weight/lenth of shank, fleching/diameter. The darts should be exactly alike for repeat accuricy.

jrrdw, yes all of the darts are exactly the same. My problem is, that when I built my gun I pretty much designed it myself. The butt stock is way too high to look down the barrel. I really want to try to shoot this accurately, so if it's not a total waste of time I want to rebuild so I can mount a scope on it to achieve the best aim possible. If it's a waste of time I'll make a nice pneumatic with my new modded sprinkler valve. Any suggestions from anyone on what I should do?

i would say 150psi..thats what my max is..

Are your darts about 3" to 4" long, made from wire, smashed flat broad head with cone type plastic fletching? If so, they won't be accurit at high pressures. They are to light weight for thier lenth. At a distence they tumble at high speeds.

Maby if you could fashion some heaver darts to the same size you have a chance of getting it done.
