Would it work?
I am designing my own type of supah valve. Instead of using air pressure to hold the stopper I would use an electro magnet. The magnet would be turned of and on with and electric switch. The magnet pulls the stopper forward because the stopper has a washer in it. When I turn off the electricity a spring would pull back the stopper and the air would go out.

it could work but what is bushing this back are you going to have a magnetic washer and reverse the poles and it would probably leak around the washer so i ad vise using the magnetic washer idea putting a spring behind the piston and having an o ring to seal it around the washer side.
i hope i helped good luck.

Isnt that so much harder than just using air? And also how are you gonna power this electromagnet? Cause batteries and etc would prob crimp your stye.

I would be using an o-ring as well as the washer. The washer is just so that the stopper is driven forward by the magnet. How would using batteries crimp my style. They are used to actuate sprinkler valves, and I am using batteries to power a motor that opens a ball valve. Also, how do you upload photos into the post?

Wouldnt it be better to have the electro magnet hold the piton foward and then have a spring pull it back? And also that is gonna need a lot more material than a washer to repel or attract. Just a thought.

The electromagnet is in the front and it pull the washer forward when I want to fill the chamber. The spring is able to pull it back once I take away the electricity from the electromagnet.
P.S. Could someone tell me how to upload a picture so I could show you a drawing.

Well is the magnet or electromagnet on the outside of the valve or the inside cause wouldnt it be blocking the air flow if it were to be on the inside?

Right, yea that would be a nice placement, so its an electromagnet? And if it is, will there be enough metal for it to have a good seal?

So basicly your makeing you own type of "sprinkler valve" solinoid activated??? There is no reason you can't make it work. If it where me, the money/time would be the determining factors. Strong/fast elctro magnets and solinoids can get pricey. But alot of fun to build with!

How would you run this electromagnet? I would assume they draw a lot of current to hold back say 50 psi on a 2" seal would require.....well alot right?

Well a piston valve around the .5 size might be small but would it be easier to use a sprinkler valve or QEV?
