Diaphragm Valve Pistol

This is my new diaphragm valve pistol, made from some misc PVC I had in my box of fittings. I wanted to do a pistol using this valve setup to go on my website but I didnt have the parts that I needed to make it the way I wanted to so I just threw together this particular gun just to have one done, in the very near future I will be getting the extra parts needed to throw together my commercial variant for the website. Anyway, this gun uses a 1/2" pipe for the barrel, its approx 12" long, including the pipe that is inside the air chamber barrel, which itself is 1 1/2" PVC. I reamed out the 1 1/2" tee to allow me to push the pipe all the way through to have a sealed chamber in the tee and be able to put my blow gun nozzle in the vertical portion of the tee. The vertical portion is 1". The whole tee is 1 1/2"x1 1/2"x 1". This gun isnt exactly done yet, I still have to get a 1" end cap and cut it up to fit over the end of the 1" PVC pipe to make the pistol grip section a little neater, then of course paint the thing. Anyhow the ammo I used in this thing are some large caliber blowdarts I bought at a local gun show. They are "big bore blowguns" darts, .625 caliber. These things are just barely able to fit in the 1/2" PVC pipe, which actually works real good to give a super tight seal. I tried two darts, a dart that is completely plastic with a spade shaped metal tip, and another with a plastic cone and a stiff metal dart with barbed tip on it. Needless to say, performance was rather impressive. The pics should show that. This obviously isnt the end though, my next goal is going to be a piston valve gun, I just have to find a source for the rubber, etc barrel sealing material so I can actually make a piston setup that will actually work. Only time will tell...

BEAUTIFUL job for a "spare parts" gun. Any DWV on it? I don't see any from here, though I'm not sure about the T. I like how you got the blowgun to sit in that handle, very nice.

I think this is worthy of a paint job.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

get some epoxy, nails and caulk tube cones/nozzles. they work pretty good and the cones are free at plumbing shops.

Cool. That is a very nifty and compact gun (along with very nifty darts :D ) The setup you have for the blowgun is also really cool. Nice job.

the darts look like blow gun darts, you can get like 100 of them on ebay for $10. they come in .30, .40. and .50 caliber(i think they do any way)

its a very nice gun, but im wondering what you used to hold the diaphragm in place. please elaborate.

l love it, small, powerful, and powerful.

haha. i actually figured out my problem like two minutes ago. the tips of my darts werent strong enough, and i was using finish nails, so basically the force of 1 finish nail flaling aobut at 500 FPS was put on one single peice of paper.... see the problem?

THE SOLUTION!
I used bigger nails, that have bigger heads, so the force of the dart flailing aobut at 500 FPS is put on 5 layers of paper (and epoxy/hot glue), which can take the brunt of the force. also, they have a MUCH higher impact force. i put one through 1/2 inch pine from 20 feet at 20 PSI...................

ill do a picture explanation sometime, im exited i get to make darts that WORK now!!!!!!! (btw i also roll my cones out of cardstock paper, and i roll them as long as possible, as the longer the dart, the more stable in flight it is)
