i need to know cause im gonna make a cannon and i have some laying around

i wouldnt use use it. conduit isnt meant for pressure. just spend the extra buck and get pressure pipe

What conduit would be good for though, is ram rods, handles and stuff like bipods, spark strips or mounts for ignition boxes. Or, there are always all kinds of things to make like lawn furniture, or maybe a shooting gallery for your guns? Maybe a gun rack?

I think I have seen people use it before without trouble. But, I don't think it's pressure rated. Get some proper pipe and just find another use for the conduit. It shouldn't be hard.

So using it for a barrel works? cause i was thinking about getting 2.5" conduit for a barrel but i didnt think it would work cause its not pressure rated. And yes i know the barrel only taakes a short burts of pressure, but better safe than sorry, no?

Anything's fine for a barrel; I've used cardboard tubing that paper towels come on.

No it isn't. If the projectile gets stuck and isn't completely at the bottom of the barrel then the (non pressure rated) barrel is exposed to the 100+psi you have the cannon at.

I work for a large public works landscaping comapany and we use 1.5 and 2" conduit a lot! We use 60-100psi of air trough a 1/2" ball valve to run pull line through the conduit. We have blown the conduit apart many times when running string....and this is with just cuping our hand over the pipe with the ball valve between out thumb and index finger.


I personally say NEVER Use Conduit as ANY part of a Spud gun!!! ok a handle might be okay, but only if there is no pressure to it!

SCH40 isn't a pressure rating, it's merely a rating on the wall thickness of the particular piece of pipe.

Well, if you're using a projectile like a potato in your (potato) gun, then your hypothetical situation wouldn't really matter. As the potato would just blow to bits.

I'm using a SCH40 barrel for my hybrid.

Yup! Its happened in different temperatures, ans has only blown above ground portions of pipe.

I think we still have a piece of one that blew right by a workers hand and hurt him...might take a picture of it.
