Wiring for Stun Gun Ignition

That is what I got from radio shack I didn't have a Fly back that I could use my monitor is an LCD and so are my tv's. I just bought the wire for it it said 20kv on the wire said pretty much the same thing that Jimmy101 said. I want my cannon to look like I know what I'm doing and pyrogeek what you said abought using a 50' lenght of speaker wire, then do you think that I could use cat-5 network wire to do the same. I think network wire would make it look cool, all contained in a trigger box. Plug the network cable in the box and gun a little extra work but the gun is clean simple looking and the best part it can be used on different guns Plug And Play so to speak. Still need to know about the cat-5 wire though

I was under the impression that the high voltage spark of a stungun was triggered, following the breakdown across a much smaller internal spark gap (the crossed copper strips), thus dumping a fully-charged capacitor through a step-up transformer.

True, if you're only using a single gap, your voltage won't exceed what's required to jump that gap. But if the trigger event is other than the breakdown between your spark terminals, the voltage can be much higher.

I didn't think think that the stun gun would work with that much wire on it. I quess you learn new things every day. The reason I was mounting it to the cannon is because I wanted it to look like I know what I am doing. People around me never made anything like mine before and I want to be proud of it.

That's a perfectly fine reason. Appearance is very important. Over-engineering something like this isn't a bad idea either though.
By all means, if heavy duty wire with thick insulation was available, I'd use it in a heartbeat. But, smaller cheap stuff still works fine.

I think thats what I'm going to do, keep the stun gun on the gun for now till I find out if I can use network wire. The biggest thing is I think that the wire's are too close together and the spark won't happen in the gun, but in the wire itself were you plug it in at the trigger box. I know I can still trigger the stun gun being mounted on the gun itself by the network wire no voltege passes through the wire, I'll just put a push button on the trigger box using the network wire to the safety thing on the bottom of the stun gun that you pull out and it dont work. All it needs is to close a curcit any way, would have been nice to put it all in the trigger box (I like the Plug And Play Idea ) though I'll figure out somthing to do soon. I always had good enginering skill's when it come's to electronics, but not on knowing what to use, any thing 12 volts dc and under I can deal with. I just wish the network wire would work with out jumping spark at the plug

there are no tesla coils in a television, there are flyback transformers slightly different but similar principle. second it does not matter how thick the wire is for high voltage especially at high frequency (b/c of the skin effect) b/c high voltage comes at the cost of low current and so the wire does not need to withstand high currents so it can be very thin the insulation is the problem you want that as thick as possible!!!
