I am currently working on a new project. It is a metered propane combustion launcher built out of ABS cell core pipe. Can I thread my meter directly into the ABS? I haven't worked extensivley with ABS, as I
usually use pressure rated PVC.

Umm... isn't celllular core pipe just laminated foam?
i did and i never had any problems.
spudblaster thinks that may be the way his failed, but i think it would be safe it you threaded it into the femal adaptor and the pipe rather than just the pipe itself.

It may be in your best interests to use solid wall ABS pipe. It is easy to find in most places, and is a lot safer than cellular core pipe.
I have tapped threads into solid wall ABS for propane meters before, and you shouldn't have any problems as long as you follow SB15's advice. I don't know how well tapping threads would work on foam core pipe though, since it's basically just a layer of foam sandwiched between two thin layers of solid wall pipe.
If you want it to be airtight, you should put teflon on it, and its really not that much extra work anyway.

ya dde that will be completely fine. Just make sure that ABVIOUSLY drill a hole smaller then the fittings diameter thats going to be getting attached to the cannon, So that when your screwing in the fitting it creates threads for itself. (Im sure you were going to do that, just making sure)
O and if you think thats not enough to hold in the metering system (Which im sure it its) Depending on the threads on the fitting thats going to be screwed into your cannon, You might be able to add a nut on the part of the fitting that is inside your cannon. But you don't Have to, It would just insure longer, and safer use.
