CpTn_lAw's hybrid w/ pics
hey ho...my pressure gauge isn't sensitive enough...and my chamber not big enough, so my meter isn't effective.....when i actually get the hybrid to shoot, it takes a 1/2 second before the burst disc explodes, and it's weak. i've done three shots this morning, that were truly deafening, my ear is still ringing after 2 hours... but then i can't get a sure shot....any advise?
PS: my ignitor creates a 9mm spark everytime

well lol, i tried to film it this afternoon (i'm in france) and it wouldn't shoot when i recorded lol ....this is lame...next time i get money, i buy a 2" piece of steel lol
But again, i didn't think it would make THAT noise!

Wow, are Ragnarok and I the only ones that use hearing protection?
Can't you just meter fuel with a syringe for now? It shouldn't be very hard to get the mix right with that. I'd switch to propane eventually for its higher flame front speed.
From what I can see it's looking good. The shape of the chamber is odd though, and might be part of what's causing the random firing (due to bad mixing). It shouldn't be hard to modify it to avoid this.

I use hearing protection when I fire the SCTBDC at full power, but considering that it's a 500 psi 2" bore burst disk gun, I don't really have a choice, unless I want to risk hearing damage.
Glad that the hybrid works. Assuming that you've done a fluid volume measurement of both the meter and the chamber, and that your calculations are accurated, you probably just need a better gauge.

and a better chamber...a 2" steel pipe for example...
it came to me that using a syringe could be a solution...though as you pointed before, the shape of my chamber iss pretty odd, and the ignitable mixture doesn't reach down always to he spark. i'm gonna have to work on that!
Stay tuned for news!!

What is the order in which you perform your fueling operations? On my hybrid, I inject fuel into the Gen. II tank, inject air, (to stir up fuel), and inject water from the top, (to further circulate fuel). This gets a pretty even mixture into the ignition chamber.

I believe that your spark gap is too large, (you are using a bbq ignitor right) I set my gap to about 2mm for mixes up to 8x.
Looks like a fun Hybrid, good luck getting the bugs sorted.
P.S. You got my 1000th post

Ah, there's the topic you wanted...

hey gee thanks evereybody, well, i'm at home today , but i have an exam tomorow (maths applied to science)...still, i'm gonna reduce he park gap...but i don't get it, I want the maximum amount of flammable complexes to be ignited, don't I ?
As for the order ; i proceed like that:
my meter is 60 ml , my chamber 247, so with a 3x mix i need approx 10 % of butane, that makes 25 ml, so it's 0.4 the volume of the meter, equals 14,5 /2 = 7.25 psi if i'm right? so i put half a bar of gaz in the chamber; then close the valves, eject the gaz from the meter, add the air to mount the chamber at 30 psi, and then close the safety valve and the other valves.
I clik...and if i'm lucky, kaboom.
P.S.: glad i could help with the 1000 posts thingy lol

okay, i have done a succesful firing, woaw, that thing is a beast, it makes all the canalisations tremble in my house, and it's like taking slap in the chest at 3 x; and could someone make a approxiation of the muzzle velocity? projectile = 3 grams ; barrel : 60cm and you know all there is to know...i'm on a mac so i can't run the GGDT or else..
. I give you damage pics, at least two. these were put together lined up. the water jug was full, and the metal bucket was behind it to keep the projectile from hitting anything. (projectile is a little fruit, with my pneumatic even at 15 bars, a fruit would desintegrate after the first layer of the jug.; and with the hybrid, it has the power to slightly dent he metal bucket)

enjoy

here is the picture, oh and by the way, i've abandonned my BBQ ignitor, for a much more reliable one.....a 10kv 60hz arcing circuit from a plasma lamp. i'll do the testing as soon as i am alone in the house, cause it's too loud even with two doors closed...i mean, the pitch is very low, like a bim "POM" and makes everything tremble in the house lol XD So my father doesn't appreciate that very much!
projectile
and the ignition circuit, that will be housed in a plastic insulated box, with a push button switch that i'll use as a main trigger.
