I second that, I am 34 years old, and Warhead has taught me alot since I have joined the site. Age means nothing. With the right equipment, he could build just as good of a cannon as anyone on this site, if not better.Gun Freak wrote:First off, age has nothing to do with it. Second, about the pneumatic idea... I agree
Cartridge help.

You may want to consider an unpressurized oxy-fuel mix instead of air. And you'll want to overbuild it, obviously. If you go for the pre-pressurised option, I'd avoid actual artillery shells, since they'll have a large flat surface exposed to pressure.
I would recommend making some type of burst disk holder that can be soldered into a spray paint(or similar) can with the bottom cut off. Cheap, readily availible, rated for ~70 psi (out of breech; you'll want the launcher to take the full ignition pressure obviously).

Evan, I have already made a hybrid cartridge (yeah I know its made out of pvc and not the safest, but I still did it...) and I have a pretty big knowledge of pneumatic's now as well. Put it this way, this sort of stuff comes as second nature to me even though no one in the family 'cept my grandfather is really into mechanical things and the like.
Fnord, I dunno about the oxy-fuel mix. That may become a bit expensive to maintain.
Zeus, that may be a possible. Anything that you would recommend?

I agree with the pneumatic idea. For airsoft, you want low power, so their is no reason to use the high pressures associated with hybrids. For what you want, a pneumatic will be much easier to build operate, refill, and use in general. It will be safer. Their is really no positive aspect to using a hybrid in airsoft. Its dangerous
That is all.

Oh, yeah.. He does have the knowledge, but I haven't seen very many cannons from him.. Knowledge is on thing, and skill is another.. and with me not having any showcases.. I'm just too lazy!! haha I will upload all of my new guns though.. I'm just busy with school and stuff..mattyzip77 wrote:Gun Freak wrote:First off, age has nothing to do with it. Evan that's kind of flaming... I do have quite a few launchers, and while not all of them are in the showcase, I do have them.
Clemson, if you saw the size of this field, you would know why we are going with hybrid. Plus the sound is another factor, the team wants it to sound roughly the same...

Sorry bro.. I know what you mean!! also, I DO have a mauler that needs using, would you like to use it? My design for a cannon could shoot concrete filled tennis balls about 600 FPS with a range of about 750 yards.. wouldn't that be good for a mortar?warhead052 wrote:Evan that's kind of flaming... Mortar maybe, but for crossing a field just over a mile and a half? Not so much...

Not to burst you bubble, but.. The "Punkin Chunkin" guys haven't EVER shot ANYTHING over a mile, only UNDER a mile, and I'm a semi pro at airsoft, and I've never seen a gun with a range of more than 450 FEET.. just wondering about how that would work..?warhead052 wrote:Mortar maybe, but for crossing a field just over a mile and a half? Same with me.. I'm the only one who knows how to repair small engines, and even large engines, and I build advanced RC planes from SCRATCH, and I have had some machining experience, not much though, and I also have MULTIPLE designs for that semi automatic airsoft sniper rifle that shoots (around) 500 FPS which I hope to finish soon.. just saying, you're not the only young inventor around..warhead052 wrote:Evan, I have already made a hybrid cartridge (yeah I know its made out of pvc and not the safest, but I still did it...) and I have a pretty big knowledge of pneumatic's now as well. How about you combine a piston hybrid with cartridges?
a 5/2 valve for air and propane, behind a piston valve. The ammo could still be in cartridges, but making them breech eject could be interesting.
You would likely have to put holes in the side of the cartridge, and have a way to get gas into them from the OD of the cartridge. Either it would be coax (with no place to put the piston), or have a weird "over-under" look to it.
A mortar would be a simple piston coax, but it would have REALLY thick walls (since the chamber must be enclosed in what appears to be the walls)

Hey, I thought I would draw you a picture of the diagram.. It's done now, just let me upload it..
DONE!! Hope this helps with the loading system!!

YES!! That's what I was trying to achieve with this loading system!! haharamses wrote:How about you combine a piston hybrid with cartridges?
