[Dropped]

On Topic: You've got a great hybrid there Crowley. Simple yet still powerful. Can't wait for the video once you get a barrel for it.

Stop asking what has happened to DYI. You're not going to get an answer from anyone who has been trusted with the information, and it's cluttering up the forums.

There are things I would like to know too, but I don't badger every single person who might have information, especially when past experience has shown that those who probably do have information are outright refusing to hand it out.

I will however say that I think SB15 is being facetious.

You're right Ragnarok, my curiosity simply got the better of me when I saw something contradicting the general consensus, that DYI was alright. I immediately jumped to the worst conclusion. However, now that you mention it, I can see how SB15 could be being facetious there. Its too bad he doesn't post anymore, I enjoyed his cannons a lot and he made a lot of contributions here. Ragnarok's lesson is a good one for everyone to follow.

I'm going to edit my previous post to avoid getting this thread sidetracked. I wouldn't want that for Crowley's new hybrid. :D

BTW Crowley I'm still waiting for that vid

Lol, edit your previous post, and make a new one with the same subject=) Its not like he died. He will be more likely to come back when, well, the forum improves (post quality, noobs, etc...)

I really don't see why this hybrid is so great, just like every other one. Its either because hybrids sparsely come up, or its crowley.

Not trying to put you down, everyone's gotta start somewhere =) Beats any gun ive made. I second the vid =) Looking at steel isn't all that appealing.

GL on future hybrids.

EDIT: I rearead my post =) Sorry if i sound Cold =p just telling you my opinion

Crap, oh well its the thought that counts :D

Bah, don't worry about it. I know you aren't. Let's just drop it since we've all been assured DYI is ok. And BTW, those who know the whole story can stop dropping little hints if they actually want the subject to be dropped.

I suppose this hybrid is getting a lot of responses since it's been awhile since the last hybrid was posted.

Edit: @Crowley: feel free to clean up this thread (it is yours after all). I regret starting this debate again.

Oh Great! just fine, Now this crazy New-Zealander is gonna be pelting me with marbles halfway across the world :D Very nice cannon though.
Btw, what kind of velocity are you expecting with a 10x mix?
Yeah, it's that important.

Haha I come home from school to this :P

Cheers, SB15. Most of my inspiration has come from looking at your several hybrid designs (must be around 6 or 7 on the forum).
Can't wait for the video once you get a barrel for it.
Neither can I, dry shots are already enough to scare me over the power of this cannon.

Yeah I know what you mean, but then again 95% of all pneumatics and combustions are more or less the same thing. :)

Hybrids are just seen as the 'step-up' due to the complicated fueling issues and incredible, easy to obtain, power. But nowadays, it's fairly easy to make one if you know a thing or two about what you are doing.

The fact that I made one could have something to do with it, not many Moderators post cannons often and it's quite a bit harder to make spudguns down in NZ then up in America or even in Australia. I think this is the first Hybrid spudgun in NZ as well. I'm sure there are things based on the same principle, but whether they were made for 'spudgun' purposes or not is a different story.

Depends what with I guess. I made this mainly to break the sound barrier with no doubt in mind. I can safely do that with 6mm BB's at a 7x mix according to HGDT. But my main ammo will probably be BB buckshots, batteries, fishing sinkers and homemade penetrating darts.

I've since mounted this to a small base, consisting of a small MDF board and two wood 'risers' (small blocks of wood more or less) on the bottom to raise the gun a few inches of the ground.

Hopefully I can paint it this weekend and maybe, just maybe, get a barrel. Then I will update the pictures and hopefully post some videos.

Stay tuned. :)

Actually, I think it applies to many of our big posters, not just the mods.

I figure it's probably because the big posters already have quite a spudding armoury, and don't have a lot of ideas for something to build that's not a close cousin of something else they've already built. Alternatively, it could just be that the projects they do actually do are expensive and thus can't come often.

I think that we see the "big posters" so often. I have seen thousands of Crowley posts, and only a few cannons. Makes it seem like a one in a thousand occasion.

To get on subject, this is a neat cannon. All hybrids are just badass. I too am looking forward to the videos you produce of this thing.

I believe it's a little of all of the above. Basic, quick and dirty cannons won't typically be on the menu of veteran spudders....and that means more imagination, design, time and expense going into new cannons, if at all.

And I don't really have money to throw around on experimental project, prototypes and fancy parts. I can't even get 1/4" fittings in NZ easily aside from a nipple.

Well, it's certainly true in my case.

It's going to be close on two years since I last completed a big build by the time I've got my current cannon going - and the cannon itself is a league away from what I then thought I'd be working on next.

I know exactly what you mean. I get tons of ideas, but after I've ironed them out I sit back and think about whether I really 'need' what I'm going to build or if it's just going to collect dust. In fact currently I only have 1 pneumatic, one semi-finished advanced combustion, and my hybrid 2.1 which doesn't work(easy fix, but I'm lazy:). All of which you wouldn't recognize.

Ha, sorry for the hijacking Crowley. This is a clean, compact but quite normal hybrid, though I'm sure it will be much more impressive with a video behind it.
With a 1" union you could probably get close to putting a golf ball past the sound barrier, though I wouldn't stand next to the barrel.
