Hybrid cartridge.

This is a hybrid cartridge, and its also my first hybrid.

Butane is the main fuel, and I pressurize it to about 25 psi. Fires consistently, not one shot has failed yet, and I have fired it maybe 78 times now... It is 3/4" ID pvc, and about 8" long.
Pictures.

Rear view.
The spark screws, I know they are hard to see but they do exist.
Full with igniter in place.

I hope you enjoyed looking!

Do you meter the butane or just spray and pray? You really should upgrade, IMO pvc is not a good idea for hybrids.

Meter with the tube on the lighter trick. This was only a first after all, and I know pvc is not good for hybrids, which is why its at this size and plus I can't find a material that will hold back 30 psi without bursting/leaking. So I already have a safety measure in place without even thinking about it...

If you ever make a setup to load these into then the pvc will become a non-issue, just make your bolt/cartidge housing from steel or copper. Are you just gluing the burst disk on? A set of male/female threaded connectors would act as a cheap union.

Nope, its just a plastic grocery bag and the coupler. Pretty effective and friction holds till about 150 psi, in 3/4" cartridges. My 2" mortar holds it up to about 50, but thats because its a 2' section and the friction fit just slides off.

Construction vs mix, I beg to differ!

check the first few hybrids, they where much lager dia pvc and metered fuel so this probably a bit safer.

This is rated pvc to 470 or 480, so its pretty safe. But thanks for all the comments.

Ok, its fine for the low mix :tongue3:

Tip: Wrap the PVC in duct tape so you don't get impaled with shrapnel when it explodes...
Nah, at low mixes it should be ok but don't go any higher. My micro hybrid scares the hell outa me everytime i fire it even though it's made of copper.
But i suppose that is a 8X

Yeah I usually fire it while its on the ground with some sort of item over it to protect me incase it fails. But trust me, the disk is so weak it bursts at 30 psi, so I think this is pretty safe.

Do you have a gun that fires this cartridge? It shouldnt be to hard to make a gun where you can load the cartridge and the ignitor makes contact with the screws.

No I don't yet. I might try making one at some point, but not right now. Too much stuff going on right now. If I do, it will pretty much be a rifle stock, with two little copper half circles that the screws will sit in, and those will be the contacts for the spark.

I would imagine it would be possible to make them eject themselves after fireing, how much recoil do they have
