percussion cap ignition?

Just hypothetical, what would happen if you used shotshell primers as an ignition source? Would this cause DDT? Im not going to attempt it because of legal concerns It may be viewed as a device with explosive discharge. But would it work and would there be advantages or would it be too dangerous for anyone to attempt under any cirucumstances.

In my opinion, electronic ignition is much easier to set up and also more reliable if properly installed. The automotive industry provides ample proof of the matter :)

Retaining pressure in a cheap and easy way is more of an issue than ignition in that case.

what about using real cartriges to hold pressure? liek a 20mm cartrige?

I'd rather thread two bolts through the wall of a cartridge and have an electronic ignition source make contact with them externally. Primers would create sealing issues and not to mention your chamber will be filthy in no time.

how about we encase the projectile in brass..use a primer as ignition and a charge of smokeless powder... The cartridge itself wouldn't be able to withstand the pressure of course so it would be inserted into a reinforced steel area... a chamber if you will.. These cartidges can even be stacked side by side and fed by a spring, and we can harness the waste gasses to load new cartridges! ........

oh wait ... never mind :-p

On the real a cartidge sounds great...basically if you could design a chamber where a pvc cartridge could slide in, make electrical contact with an ignition system, and close a breach behind it would work. Bang, open breach, remove shell and replace close breach, bang... Of course all cartridges would be reloadable.

By "holding pressure", I meant keeping the pre-ignition gasses in. A burst disk is the usual solution, but it you have to make lots of them, not the best idea.

check out some of the paintball tanks on youtube, a guy makes reailly nice one out of square tube and sheet metal, even makes his own tracks.. powered by a 2 cylinder lawn tractor engine and hydraulic driven like a bobcat, can neutral steer and all. would be bad ass to build a 2/3 scale replica with a big old spud gun, utilizing a cartridge system, like paintball for rich folks lol ... that is if you built more than one lol.

There used to be (still is?) an amusement park in San Diego that had a 'tank battle' arena. Basically they were two-man tanks. One person drove the tank. The other person manned the turret. Mind you, the chassis of the tank was a glorified go-kart with a fiberglass shell (to make it look like a tank), but the turret spun and had a big air gun that fired tennis balls. Each tank had contact plates. If you hit the contact plate of another tank, that tank was disabled for X amount of time. Throw in a few obsticles, 6-8 tanks, and it was a blast!

Well shoot, that sounds like a heck of a money maker right there... lets see.. 10 acre lot, around here would cost 50,000 usd, and 4 tanks could be made for $10,000 each less than $100k for a buisness that requires nothing more than some gasoline and maybe a maintnance guy to run...
Pnumatics would be for sure, POWERFULL ones though but they could get 10 shots off relatively quick if you have a big enough air tank in the vehicle. Also rig a way where it would take two to three shots to disable a tank from the front, 1 or two from the side and one shot in the rear. Maybe even build one or two "anti tank" guns where the crew would be sheltered from projectiles hitting them. One for each base maybe?

Charge $5 a person a game and if you have a full game with 4 tanks and two AT guns with a crew of two each thats $60 a game.. time limit 15 minutes run 3 times an hour thats $180 an hour max gross... sounds like a plan....... now for $100,000 lol .

if you have an IC engine on a tank you might as well put an air compressor there :-)

high flow isn't needed as it could run all the time and limit the numer of shots that can be fired per unit of time
