i read some where in this forum that the average sprinkler valve can withstand more the 160 psi
Although I have never used my sprinkler valve at that pressure, continual use at 160psi may be somewhat detrimental to the valve.
I get adequate power at the 100-120psi range with my sprinkler valve launcher.

Sprinkler valves are normally rated to around 10 bar, that's 150 psi so they will be safe to use at that pressure.
As to using a blowgun as a valve, have a look at
this experiment I had done with a blowgun/barrel setup to determine power.

well after i did redesign my air gun i made it do i did not need a sprinkler valve or a blow gun valve. using a garden hose as the valve and directly placing the barrel and pressure chamber to it.
@jack
my gun will turn out something like yours simple but with a breech loading( or so i think it called) for easy loading and maybe a bit bigger
[edit] sry i meant blow gun not garden hose lol

That may have been somewhere on the forum but it is in no way recommended. The average sprinkler valve is only rated to 120 PSI or so, therefore you really shouldn't go higher than that, especially if it has been modified.

@ potato
im just gonna bypass the sprinkler valve as it maybe impossible to get 1 here and mail order is out of the question for me. and following the advice of
jack i am going to use the blow valve directly as im not going to make a large calibre gun. (provided i can even get a blow gun valve...)

Surely you can buy one from a hardware store, if that fails,
eBay!
