New Idea on pellet rifle

compression like you would use on a copper pipe? would that work on steel ( I was under the impression those were for soft metal piping) if they work, it would be awesome! 8)

also while I have a ear, if I'm making a barrel roughly 3/16" in diameter and about 2 3/4-3 feet long. and running the pressure tank at about 110 psi, what would you say is the ideal pipe size & length for a pressure chamber?

well a smaller volume but higher pressure chamber is ideal, i think 200psi would be more suitable for a pellet gun... as for the actuall figures, i would find some but i can't test cos i don't have ggdt

The valve I am looking at is only rated to 120 its product number 6464K12 at MCmaster.com, I wanted to use that or something like it, so I can keep constant co2 pressure in my pressure chamber, and then seal the inlet, and release the pressure to the barrel.

beggining to wonder if that will work or not though

hmm i'm not sure, if i was to use co2, i would get a regulator and set it to ~200psi then use a normal qev setup except using co2.

are qev's three way, or would I have to put a valve between my pressure source and tank that would be shut between each shot

well qevs have a pilot one side a chamber on the bottom and you would attach the barrel to the other port (well etleast on the one i have)

the arrow on this one is the direction of flow and the chamber would go on the botton and the pilot/fill on the back.

what i would do is have regulated co2 goiong through a ball valve then have a tee with the pilot valve on then itt goes into the qev and the chamber. so i would have regulated co2 which fills the chmaber to your desired pressure then shut it off with the ball valve and the canon would be ready to fire.

that seems the simplest, doesn't quite provide the "point and squeeze" trigger I was looking for though

oh well, that probably what I'll end up doing. Gonna waste another hour or so looking on the net for a valve that would reach the above criteria before giving in though 8)

well with regulated co2 you can go to higher pressures than 120psi and with the qev i use people use them at 300psi+

yeah, and I definitely want the highest pressure, but I was hoping for the best of both worlds like I said I will probably end up going with your suggestion. But I want to search for awhile yet, see if I can't find a similar valve to what I was looking at but that can handle higher pressure. :shrug: if I do cool, if not I'll live with the other way.

although co2 regs can be quite expensive... i certainly can't afford one at the moment

you can buy a paintball reg for a the paintball type tanks for about 10-20 bucks on ebay.

also, are you familiar with check valves? would that work in place of a ball valve? pressure gets yay high, check valve shuts, using the qev I release pressure through the barrel. checkfill reopens from pressure.

thats for paintball ones though, the "professional" ones you would use for co2 industrially go for 50-100 bucks US

Well Guys I think I have come to a halt. I have made several rifles now. I have a 177, and a 22 caliber pellet rifle and a coaxal rifle that has two barrel's one for 50caliber balls , batteries, jellybeans or what ever I can stick in it. At 15 yards they are ok and would probly help you in a survival situtation but thats about it. It was fun and I enjoyed talking and learning from you Guys. I guess everybody was a winner since most of it was on what you could do with raw materials and what nots. It's something what someone can think up. Well thanks this is a good site Chuck
