Here's the deal. What I want to make is a skirmishable, accurate, powerful, non ammo-hogging airsoft DMR. For months on end I have been brainstorming. I bought an airsoft barrel (650mm 6.03mm ID) to put in an airsoft gun that I am making. The problem is, I can't decide on a good valve design/gun body/ all the other stuff. Let me explain.

From the beginning, I've wanted to make an M82.

The whole thing is based off the valveless bb gun design that I posted a while ago, link. I have pretty much given up all hope on this one due to difficuly of build (I know I can make it but it would be incredible difficult), low efficiency because of a joint that is not airtight and inability to obtain correct parts.

After realizing how hard it would be to make the first option, I thought up a sort of upgrade to my M16 Vortex where I would make an assault rifle style gun with the valveless concept. Again, the problem is always being able to get out the valve unit while keeping the whole gun looking cool.

Another issue I have is instalation of my barrel with a hop up and also making it removable (for overall servicability and so I can clean it). This is what I have.

As you can see, it is near impossible to install a homemade hop on it while still leaving room to attach it to the valve securly. If you have any ideas as to what I should do please leave a comment and fire away any ideas you have for my new airsoft gun! I will update as much as I can.

Thanks. :occasion5:

I would go qev dcv and pneumatic cylinder, the one I made cycled plenty quickly (I dont airspft but I assume dmr is a semi? If not you could probably make it full auto with electronics or smart mechanics) and you only lose a tiny bit of pilot air every shot. And feeding is reliable which I assume is important in airspft. I think you could probably use some clamps and orings to attach the barrel and hop up, what sort of machining are you capable of? Will a drill press and the right bits I'm sure you could come up with something that would work great. Are you making your own magazine or buying ones?

If you like your design but what to hide the fittings remember you can do mechanacal linkages from an aesthetically pleasing trigger to a functional but hidden blow gun or ball valve.

Thank you for your input. A DMR is a designated marksman rifle. So like an upgraded M16 could be a DMR. At this point, I am so done with aesthetics and I think I will go straight for functionality. A qev/dcv sounds like a good idea but I think it is going a little beyond what I wanted to spend. I'll look into it though. This will be my summer project so I have plenty of time. What I am goig for is the sleekest, simplest, and best way to make my gun. Again thank you for your input. I will make a list of considerable ideas.

If you are going to style it like a Barret m107, I would suggest going away from the DM classification. Cause realistically It is a sniper platform/anti material platform. Even though it supports semi-auto firing mode, It is not really a DMR.. Not to say you shouldn't make a m107 style body or make it semi auot, I think you should, just bare in mind it seems less legit when you call it a DMR.

I didn't know what else to call it! The assault rifle was supposed to be the DMR and the sniper was... A sniper.
