Ok guys.. So I havn't posted in I don't even know how long. Been too busy with uni/work and everything else to really be doing any builds. I've been checking in from time to time however.

Anyways, having finished uni for the year, and having a bunch of spare time, I decided to embark on a new project - one that I had tried numerous times in the past and failed. Being in Australia, we cannot have bb guns as they are illegal. As some of you may know, I have made a few compressed air guns - including a semi - based around soda stream cannisters and such. These were great and all, but I'v still always yearned for a basic, hand cocking pistol to fire multiple single shots between loads, shooting 6mm rounds.

Well I finally did it. And the overall design turned out to be super simple actually, and for what it is, works really well. The internal magazine holds 19 rounds and could be extended. As for power, it hurts significantly more than the shitty bb guns I've used when overseas, yet isn't too much for mucking around the house.
I used a Nerf Strongarm as the base, as it has a nice direct plunger system. I added a 5kg spring, and made the modifications to the barrel as seen in the pics.

Here's what I started with

Here are the workings of the magazine and loading. I forgot to add in the drawing the breather holes in the inner barrel, located back close to the piston. This allows the air to escape through the inner barrel, thus propelling the round forward.
The round retainer is simply a piece of thin piano wire, bent to a slight angle, and is pushed down as the piston and inner barrel go forward.

And my impatient paint job

Overall I'm stoked with how it turned out.. It's powerful enough, loading is a breeze, and the cocking/round loading mechanics have worked flawlessly so far. At first I was thinking I'd need to hold the gun basically vertical when cocking to ensure a BB falls down into the barrel. This isn't the case, and at pretty much any angle above horizontal the loading system works.

Now I've made this one, my next project is gonna be a Nerf Retaliator, with orangemodworks metal internals and an 8kg spring, plus a reflex sight up top and a sexy paint job. Should be significantly more powerful that this one, and will look badass when complete 8)

Look who's still making guns down under :D

Looking good, I don't imagine power is much better than a springer airsoft pistol but still a cool project :)

Haha I come and go like the wind my friend.

Yeah power isn't massive - according to the trusty airsoft coke can chrono, I'm getting around 300 fps.. not too shabby for a $18 build :)

300FPS seems a bit too much for the strong arm. I'm a Nerfer in Brisbane myself and converted (only single shot) a Nite Finder with 11kg spring and it fired just shy under 380FPS with a 0.2g plastic BB (measured it with a chronograph).

What weight was the plastic bb were you using? Might be about right if you were using 0.12g though. You don't need that much power though to be honest. Always wanted to start a group for this "backyard nerf airsoft", but need a good venue cause it's technically illegal in Aus :(.

I'm really curious about your magazine set up though, it's somewhat confusing. Also, I wouldn't recommend using 'metal' internals from OMW, a lot of people who I Nerf with seem to get broken stuff from them. The 8kg spring on the 'catch' of the retaliator also wears out quite quickly with extended use.
It's Nerf or Nothing.

Don't start crying when I play this as my hobby, Paintball, Airsoft and Nerf are equally good hobbies, except you can play Nerf in public. Good day! Hmph!

Bro, have you had the Strongarms apart? They do well.

And dude, a group for nerf airsoft, I've been playing for a while, without the nerf bit.

Yeah I have. We're pretty heavy into our Nerf Modding. The Strong Arms are alright. Not as big as the NF plunger though. The plunger capacity is way to small for a Nerf Dart, but it's perfect for BBs. However, I don't believe it could fire a plastic BB at 300FPS unless you're using 0.12g BBs.

Is there a group for Airsoft? There hasn't been any from what I heard (unless there's an underground one, and I won't pry to ask about that since I believe they should keep this on a down low).

I have heavily mod a Firestrike Blaster cause obviously it is a cheap gun. I have been able to get an fps of up to 310 with a 0.2g BBs but I have also design it so that the fps can be change within seconds (lower the fps to increase life of the gun). It also have a decent accuracy; I can hit a 20 cent coin at a distance of 10m using a scope. So its possible to get an fps of 300 mate.
