By the way JSR, have you ever looked at my .177 stick gun? I cant be arsed to find it at the moment, as im doing work, but It actually works very well as what you are describing.

If it wasnt a foot long, it would fit perfectly in a marker. The outside chamber is 1/2 copper and the inside is .18in ID aluminum tubing i ordered from Mcmaster.

As for the integral supressor, I think your going to have serious trouble in making that work reliably with the ammo going through the holed-out tubing. Unless your a machinist, And know how to make the holes perfect. Not saying dont try it, But the hole idea might not work as you think. If it were me, I would simply cut the barrel short at that point, and make the outlet part simply a .2in hole or something. That way theres no contact with the BB when it leaves the barrel.

I commend you for making theese cool things. I wish i wasnt in school so i could do theese things......

All in all, Good luck. And for all people wondering how loud a mini .177 gun can be, Its loud. My .177 stick gun makes my ears ring at 500......

I find no problems with this, I just make sure that I use a steel mandrel in the barrel while drilling to make sure I don't deform it, and that the holes are properly filed so as not to obstruct the barrel.

I've decided to give this concept another go, with some modifications:

- metal chamber to avoid the epic fail that afflicted my first version, and to allow it to be used at 800 psi

- true 0.22" barrel as opposed to a 6mm calibre

- all rubber piston stamped out of a 5mm rubber sheet as in my pengun v2

Here's the parts before it all gets epoxied up. One thing to note is that since it will not be servicable, I've added a plastic collar to the barrel to widen the piston seat and reduce stress on the piston.

Looks nice how much will the piston travel? and how exactly did you "stamp" it out?

It should only give around 3 ft/lbs with a 0.22 pellet at 800 psi, but still much more powerful than the pen gun.

how exactly did you "stamp" it out?
Simply take a section of chamber tubing, clamp it in a drill and sharpen it with a file. You can then either take the tubing out and hammer out a section of rubber (on a soft surface like wood or cardboard) or leave it in the drill and "punch" it out carefully. If you leave the latter method, be careful...

Yes, silly JSR was feeding the rubber into the drill as it was clamped in a vice, not the recommended way of doing things :roll:
Is that rubber neoprene rubber or something else?
No idea what it is exactly, just some scraps I found at work. Looks like neoprene.

it will not be serviceable
not to dis your construction methods but surely you could use a couple of threaded fittings.. one threaded pipe plus two home-made compression fittings and you've got a fully serviceable gun

Have you been considering building a pneumatic walking stick ??

Of course this would be ideal, it's not that I use epoxy because I enjoy locking my projects up in such a manner that the only way to take them apart is to destroy them. It's just that I don't have sufficient metalworking facilities at hand and while I would like to eventually invest in them, my plate occupied by other things at the moment.
Have you been considering building a pneumatic walking stick?
What I really want to do is make one in a bicycle pump, Munich style:)

I meant standard (or slightly modified) fittings... sure they are not ideal

if standard fittings are not enough you can always mod them: add an o ring or rubber washer here and there and so on... actually you could even combine them with epoxy

ohh and if you are looking for unusual parts (like metric to imperial adapters or ready made compression fittings) there are lots of them in old equipment, weed sprayers, valves, taps etc.

surely you can find a lot of parts in all those parts that are throw away at your work
