Got bored today, so I grabbed my mini spudgun and made it into an 'artillery' style gun, complete with recoil absorbtion
The only problem is that I have to partially dismantle it to reload, but other than that it's pretty fun.

That's awesome! You just inspired me to build a remote controlled paintball turret out of knex

That's an effective little mount there, recoil damping and all. I'm surprised we haven't seen more K'nex usage in some of these things.

Good imagination!

Quite a bit of recoil for a mini, might be enough to cycle an action, hmmm...

I sense something very interesting to come out of that "hmmm..."

nice build by the way, i think i still have some k'nex somewhere...

daayyyuummm boy, that thang be pretty sweet.

I would say, you've inspired me. I am thinking about making a base that moves by remote control and a sprinkler valve to make a fully electronic pneumatic. (now if only I knew how....)

Sadly it is only a pray-n-spray, so not much hope of making it semi-auto. I wonder if one of the brilliant minds on spudfiles could figure out a way to vent and re-load a chamber really quickly??? Perhaps use the nozzle of a blowtorch to blast in fresh fuel/air mix? I've used it before as a fast way to fuel mini's, it removes the need to vent. I might go and re-design this so that the gun sits in a cradle instead of being enclosed in k'nex, because that makes reloading a real pain.

Thats a pretty sweet idea, i may try to simulate it with a Howitzer style piece, thanks for the idea :) 10/10

Well, I've already played around with the idea ;)

I've recently gotten back into k'nex, and I'm working on a custom ball factory. I might post it if I get the time

On topic, that's a really good idea for a mini! You could shoot stuff for your pets, and watch them freak out! (NOT SHOOT AT THEM!!)

Finished version two :D

It is a much better mechanism than the first design. I improved the sliding part so that it doesn't get stuck and is easier to move. The gun is held in place by the natural 'springiness' of knex bits, it sorta clips into it's little cradle. There are some more parts added to make it sturdier. The nice thing about this design is I can remove the barrel without taking anything apart at all, so reloads are much more painless. This version can also have the angle altered by removing/adjusting the length of the legs. The rubber band is also weaker than the previous design (old design needed strong rubber bands to get the recoil absorber to work) this means the sliding part has more travel and is more gradual than the old one. I also made this one work without having to be weighed down (the old one needed a couple of lantern batterys to stop it falling over)

Overall I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.

Your recoil damper is really cool especially for just a rubber band. Some good K'nex engineering there...

Hehe thanks. I always did like k'nex.
