I recently found that some used florescent tubes (those long light bulb things) fit pretty will in a 1.5" pvc barrel, I remember throwing them like javelins into dumpsters the shattered completely on impact and it was really fun, but my parents would throw a fit it they found scattered bits of glass in my backyard.
so how could I setup a target or something so I could enjoy the awesome shattering impact while containing the mess

Shatter it somewhere else or dont shoot it
I dont know how hard it will shatter when impacting with such force and it might give a good crapload of sharp pieces flying at high velocities.
Next to this danger, it gives a good mess of sharp pieces lying everywere, so you should search a place where it can be shot.
But NOT in your backyard, since the shards may fly (and thus spread out) up to a decent range.

if you ever try to pick up pieces of that glass i suggest you were some form of gloves because the lights contain mercury

Mr.C: That's not as easy as you think. It's like me kicking you in the balls and telling you to stop crying.

I keep trying to find the angle on how this might possibly be a good idea and I just can't seem to find one. Anytime I go spudding the only thing I've ever left behind is potato. No target pieces, no bags, no fuel cans or caps, no litter of any kind. I'm not a big lib / environmentalist / Al Gore fan or anything close but firing these fluorescent tubes to their ultimate destruction is just irresponsible and dangerous. You WILL NOT be able to pick up all of the glass not to mention capture the release of the mercury vapor released during impact. Many of us here participate in this hobby as responsibly as possible only occasionally pissing off the neighbors with loud bangs when necessary. To do this will leave glass and harmful chemicals in a place for others to either clean up, get injured on, or both. Sorry tables, this one gets a MASSIVE thumbs down from me.
Edit: Wouldn't be too surprised if they broke in your barrel either.

I must also state my concern at this idea, that glass is as sharp as Sherlock.MikeNice wrote:I keep trying to find the angle on how this might possibly be a good idea and I just can't seem to find one. Just don't do it

but it's still releasing it into the ecosystem. and if someone goes rummaging, they may get hurt. I don't like the idea. Make ice blocks or something, I don't know. Just shoot stuff that won't risk injuring others or polluting the environment.
I'm weird, I know it, you don't need to tell me.
sorry to say, almost every gun on here has a risk of injuring others, it just depends on which way it's pointingpyrogeek wrote:but it's still releasing it into the ecosystem. and if someone goes rummaging, they may get hurt. That's a bit different. You have control over where you're aiming, you never know who's going to hurt himself on the broken glass.Eddbot wrote:sorry to say, almost every gun on here has a risk of injuring others, it just depends on which way it's pointingpyrogeek wrote:but it's still releasing it into the ecosystem. and if someone goes rummaging, they may get hurt. But not quite as sharp as my humour!Novacastrian wrote:I must also state my concern at this idea, that glass is as sharp as Sherlock.
It might look cool, but those things are as fragile as hell - it will probably turn into mush in your barrel. Even if it doesn't, they're pretty light, so it'll happen too fast for it to really be that great.
It's got big risks, no real upside, so just give the idea a rest I think.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
with as many g's as we figured are put on a golf ball 928.57 g's you think that flourescent tube is gonna make it out of the barrel, you're gonna end up covered in shards of broken glass, screw the impact to the environment, you're gonna do more damage to yourself.
