Then why not make it out of sch80 in the first place.pizlo wrote:If you sleeved your gun with sch80 pvc I doubt the initial burst could shatter that as well.
Wrapping gun in tape reduce shrapnel?

About pvc showing up on xray i think it would. I read an article about people who would dig up graves and replace with pvc. They sold the body parts to other people. There was an xray of one person, yo cold clearly make out the tube and end caps.

I don't see the point, really. And why go through the trouble of x-raying it when you could just look.
In conclusion, pvc shows up on x-rays when they past through more than about 1/2" of it.
There, I did it. I ended an argument that has gone on forever.

Thanks _Fnord, that's what I was talking about.

cool, you could have thighs as chambers and lower legs as barrels, planet terror style

I reinforced an Oxy/MAPP hybrid made of DWV ABS with fiberglass. Estimated chamber pressures were exceeding 300 psi.
The entire reinforcing job took about 3 layers, each taking more than one hour. Wrapping a spudgun chamber in fiberglass is horrible messy, easy to f*ck up, impossible to fix when you do, and requires a respirator unless you want to be so dizzy you can hardly walk after, with headaches for a day or two afterwards.
Then I fired it at 5psi initial pressure, and ripped the threads right off a cleanout cap which I had idiotically used to plug the back of the chamber. All in all, unless you're already an expert at it, you'd be safer just using proper pipe to start with.

I wouldn't be caught dead relying on homemade fibreglass for pressure. That stuff is a bastard when it rips and splinters can stay in you for ages
I was just handling a torn fibreglass section when I got tiny strands of it buried in my hand for most of a year.
Giving way under pressure would be nasty.
Mind you, thats my opinion as an ultra safety conscious pessimist and lightweight aluminium bottles reinforced with fibreglass are used regularly as 5000psi paintball HPA tanks so properly done it works fine.

I was hiding behind a fairly significant shield when I was firing this thing, my only real concern was protecting the pipe and meter system. On a handheld, I include very significant safety margins. In hindsight, the chamber would likely have held just fine without the fiberglass, as I've used the same pipe as a barrel on the SCTBDC, and it didn't fail even when I used a 2.5 pound slug that had to be hammered into the breach.

It won't do a thing, not with pvc nor a 2 liter bottle.
Also, guns wrapped in duct tape are more likely to explode.
(If it was strong it wouldn't be wrapped in duct tape in the first place). Same reason people who wear hats are more likely to get skin cancer.

Faulty logic: noun. definition: an attempt at simple logic which contains conspicuous and often ridiculously fundamental flaws, that often ends up actually detracting from the intended point. example:
Are you saying that if I took one of my steel cannons and wrapped it in duct tape it would be more likely to explode? Also, guns wrapped in duct tape are more likely to explode.

yes yes it would. didn't you know that duct tape is almost as corrosive as HCl??DYI wrote:Are you saying that if I took one of my steel cannons and wrapped it in duct tape it would be more likely to explode?
DONT TAZE ME BRO.. DONT TAZE ME... AHHHHYea, that's definitely going to get you at least a tazer.

Oh yes. It's 90% hydrogen fluoride by volume, you knowyes yes it would. didn't you know that duct tape is almost as corrosive as HCl??

Good point, but that one post could put an end to this hole topic. Also I would feel much safer firing sleeved 40 than 80 alone.bigbob12345 wrote:Then why not make it out of sch80 in the first place.pizlo wrote:If you sleeved your gun with sch80 pvc I doubt the initial burst could shatter that as well.
