Have you ever wonder what will happen if you put diesel in the cilinder of an air rifle?

I'd go for acetylene if that doesn't work :D
Gotta be a pretty strong cylinder, though.

Air rifle buddy... not to combust, unless your just kidding :D

WARNING: Advise to the mentally retarded forum members!... Don't use Acetylene in a combustion after reading stupid stuff in this Thread... this is to shoot out of an air rifle I suspect....

I've never shot flamable liquids out and I don't plan on it, shooting flour so it sort of atomizes makes a sweet flame efect if you shoot it into fire, WATCH OUT THOUGH, it makes giant flames, DON'T shoot it towards a flame with people, animals, or someone elses property behind it....

I was thinking maybe the compression would create enough heat to ignite the diesel fuel, and it should create enough pressure to detonate acetylene. But that reaction is "extremely violent", as most chemistry books state, so that's why it would take a good strong cylinder.
A pilot flame at the muzzle would be a nice addition to the diesel/flour idea.

BTW, kids, DON'T try this at home!
The information provided in this thread should remain pure theory :)

Somebody did test this idea with ether, it does ignite giving a slight boost in power.

I didn't expect so much posts for so little time.I'm quite happy that the ether worked. We can't expect much boost in the power with a heavy projectile.

A lead 4.5mm projectile doesn't seem like such a heavy projectile to me, given the volume of the cylinder.
A little offtopic: how much is a 4.5mm piston rifle where you live? I'm looking into buying one if I can't find a suitable barrel.
