dwv cellular core pvc barrel
i am going to have a 15 foot 3nch barrel and to save money and weight i was thinking making part of the barrel out of cellular core and the other part out of the good stuff (solid pipe). i was thinking the first 5 feet solid and the last 10 feet the cellular core. at 5 feet the pressure in the barrel will be 60psi and that is with the heaviest projectile i will ever fire from it. if i do 10 feet of solid the pressure will be 45psi at the change. will the cellular core be ok with the 60?
thanks

It should be ok, but if it is only a few extra dollars i would get pressure rated pipe. 3" is a fairly large diameter and if it is 15' long there would be a lot of stress on the barrel without proper support.
oh i forgot to mention that this is a whell supprted barrel. if when i attach it its not good enough i will simply make anougher support. so you say that 5 feet solid and 10 cell core is ok? thats good news cuz the cellular core 10 feet will be slightly cheeper than the 5 feet of solid

Yeah, it's that important.
i would probably get pressure rated pipe. How much more is it to get pressure rated pvc? many people have used cell core in combustion guns that create more than 45 psi so it should be ok. will anyone be near the barrel when it fires?
If you use sch 40 and then connect that to cell core, there may be a gap in the barrel were they are coupled together. I don't know what kind of ammo you are using but it could get stuck there.

What exactly do you have that shoots tennis balls at 400 psi? I have had a barrel explode when i used it at 150 psi. That was because i used a potato that fit to tighttwizi wrote:i use dwv for barrel some times because it not meant to retain presure but it normaly fine i used it for a barrell a 400 psi shooting a tennis ball nothin happend i used that cannon many time it should be fine

Where exactly do you live that pvc is expensive? id be happy to buy you some then ship it to you. It is like a dollar a foot here.
Yeah, it's that important.
I recently read the rules for pumpkin chuckin' and the barrel is considered an "Exhaust stack" so it need not be pressure rated for that application.
